Secret Défense

I am amazed by the reviews for this outstanding film that claim it is boring. These critics simply don't understand Rivette's classical style, which makes every gesture meaningful. If the film had been shorter, it would have been less interesting, except to those whose attention span has been formed by television.

I agree, I didn't find Secret Défense boring at all.

The cinematic storytelling and "real-time" sequences were ingenius film techniques.

I was actually upset when it ended, because I felt that since I spent so much time with them all, I deserved to know what Walser did in response to Ludivine's final action, and I deserved to know whether or not Paul learned the "truth".

I especially loved the contrast of Sylvie's lifestyle in the city and her childhood home in the country. That strong, pronounced, realistic contrast was integral to illuminating her and her brother's inner feelings.

Great film.

Hello!

I knew that some cretins would consider this movie boring. To me, it's one of the greatest movies I've ever seen. I love its real-time sequences (which are unique) and its slow-moving story which never became boring considering the running time of 170 mins. Great movie.

Hopefully, there will be a nice DVD release, soon.

"Are you a truck driver?"
"No, I'm a beautician...of course I'm a truck driver!"

Am not quite with you what you mean by "real-time" sequences, TemporaryOne-1.

Too bad it seemed like a cheap soft porno whenever Sandrine Bonnaire or Grégoire Colin weren't onscreen though.

You are obviously talking about a different film.
