THE POINT OF MOVIE **SPOILER**

everyone needs to have an open mind and actually think about it for a second instead of bein stupid....... ashley judd was his daughter...... and the reason he was obsessed with her was because he felt a strange connection and caring for her..... shes his daughter grown up... she told the blind man a fabricated story of her father being a bum to make him feel bad...
thats my take on it i could be wrong but it makes the most sense

How ca she be his daughter? They're practically the same age!

The point of the movie was this: It was the embodiment of his emotions. About being left by his wife and child. Notice how his daughter disappeared when he started to get jealous that she was happy with the blind man, and about to marry him? It was the personification of his emotions about his wife leaving with his child...he focused on Ashley Judd because he wanted a purpose. He wanted to care again. Throughout the movie the emotions with each kill she did were evident, rage, jealousy, self preservation...etc...he was feeling through her again.

Enough said....

Did his wife leave with his child, or was his child abducted, and his wife left him? I couldn't tell from the movie.

Hey, I like this line of reasoning. He keeps stalking Joanna because he stopped looking for his child.

I thought maybe Ashley Judd was his daughter and he was her guardian

angel. Yes, they were practically around the same age but, did you ever think

of him to be the one that passed? I don't know. This was a film I once again,

tried to figure out.

There was significance between their relationship...Past, perhaps?

this post is funny because the poster is like every one needs to think about it for a second and stop being stupid and every thing he says is completely wrong and hes the one who is really stupid and not thinking.

reply

Judd is not his daughter, the movie is confusing but if you watch the alternate ending it makes sense.

reply

There was nothing in the commentary that hinted Judd was his daughter. The director left the ending ambiguous, which I don't like, but it was his movie, not mine.

reply

in the book it's based on - which is very good by the way - gives a much stronger idea that Joanna is his daughter. The movie less so.

reply

It doesn't really matter if she's his real daughter or not. But if it were true it would make the movie less believable and more sappy, so I like to think it's not.

Well, to me its a sort of mystical attraction: a man without daughter and a woman without father. No more.

But his "real" daughter?. A time paradox, pararel universes in conjunction or dead child possessing the woman ....
Curious theory but i don't think ... Ok, i have not read Marc Behm book.

OMG..You might just be right. Your reasoning totally makes sense to me. But I still havta admit that the movie was weird-ass!!

In the book wasn't he much older then she was?

reply

If the McGregor character is a generation older than the Judd character it does make sense. Then the visions of his daughter could possibly, and understandably, be manifestations of repressed guilt. The guardian angel angle works better, too.

I don't know why they decided to cast McGregor in the role. They would have been better off casting someone like Nick Nolte or someone of his generation.

In the original movie the Detective was much older. I think it was a casting mistake too. Even though I like Ewan a lot.
