Loved it but didn't get this part....

It's a great original story and incredibly funny but I do have one question. I'm not catholic but I don't understand why Bethany has part of God in her. I'm not really religious at all either I just like the stories. But if we change this religion to say Greek and replace God with Zeus and the since both have children with a mortal woman (Hercules and Jesus), would you say if you were the great great great great you know grandchild of Hercules' brother or sister would that make you part of Zeus? I wouldn't think so. Maybe its because Zeus got around a bit more but that's just a thought.

Other than that very entertaining $$$$

She didn't have part God in her. Rufus explained that Jesus had brothers and sisters, not conceived by God but by Mary and Joesph. So, they had kids and that bloodline started. If she was directly descendant of God, she would have been the great, great, great etc. granddaughter of Jesus, like say if Jesus impregnated someone and they had kids, their kids had kids, etc.

That's not what he is asking. He is trying to say that it doesn't make much sense to say that just by "Sharing a chromosome or two" with Jesus due to being the child of one of his brothers or sisters, it doesn't make much sense. I haven't read the bible front to back but the only way it would make any sense is if at some point God declared that all of Jesus' family and descendents of his family members would have the same blessings that Jesus had (e.g the ability to sanctify water as in the bar scene with Azraeal)

Either way it doesn't make much sense for every one of Jesus' siblings and their siblings to descendents to randomly have these amazing gifts and blessings just because Jesus was directly created by God.

In conclusion, this person is trying to say thats stupid and doesn't make much sense; but remember, this is a movie.... a movie about religion. It's not going to make much sense if you think about it for more than a few seconds.

I'm an atheist and haven't read the Bible in a long, long time but I think I can help here.

Wasn't Jesus of Nazareth a direct descendent of King David? If so, then his siblings would also be of the House of David. Thus, Bethany would also be of the House of David. I recall that the House of David was pretty special in God's eyes. I think that's why God chose Joseph & Mary in the first place: they were both of the House of David... the Messiah was supposed to be of the House of David.

Bethany doesn't descend from The Messiah, but no one does. The point is that she's of the House of David and descends from as close to The Messiah as is possible.

The whole 'siblings' explanation was added in the movie and as 'Rufus'points out "none of it is told in the bible". It's just a plot device for the movie and the writers could have sent that segment in the storyline in any direction they wanted. They could have made Jesus an alien from outer space if they wanted. In this story, Jesus had an actual desendant, a so-called great, great etc., grandniece who was bestowed with these gifts.

My question is , now that she's pregnant with another baby from God, will the kid be like his own great great great **** uncle too?

Bethany " This is my kid, she's my great great great great** uncles half sibling"
