Hitting the desk with the bat??????????

when artie got angry and grabs the bat and starts trying to smash the answering machine but its clearly filmed wrong the bat keeps stopping mid-air and its "apparently" hitting the answering machine...very very bad editing lol

He is hitting the machine, it was just built in a time when they had structural integrity. They probably thought it would smash in one hit, like the phone, and since the footage is so comical they left it in the film.
No editing at all, let alone bad editing.
