Artie talking about Rickles ad-libbing

Artie was on a talk show (don't recall which) where he discussed the classic scene with Rickles.

Artie said it was his first day on a movie set, and he was all nervous about screwing up and getting the boot, so he was trying to be as professional as possible. They started with the scene where a bunch of the guys were lined up and Rickles was supposed to rip them, but Rickles took a look at the script and went off:

"Who wrote this garbage? I can ad lib better!"

So then Rickles went nose to nose with Artie, bulged his eyes and blurted: "You baby gorilla"

Artie said the entire cast and crew screamed with laughter. He said they couldn't stop laughing, and that it took Rickles a buncha takes to get it in the can with no one cracking up. And he said Norm never really stopped laughing, if you check the scene you can still see him smiling.
