Quotes

Will (recorder)- Once upon a time there lived a young man who aimed to please. He believed what was preached to him, did what he was told, and slaved day and night to win approval. But when he dared to think for himself, he was outcast, and it was a long and painful fall. Then one day, he had an earth-shattering revelation - a Truth that would define his life - genius is never appreciated.

What a pisser.

Reed - But you guys don't do anything. You sit around, and you listen to your sh-tty music, and you pass out your 'zenes, and you talk about changing the world, but you don't do anything. You're sleepwalkers. You are sleepwalking.

Cult Dude - We just don't want you.

Reed- What am I going to do? I don't have anything.

Will - List of things to do: 1. Make ex-girlfriend see the light and realize she still loves me. Amen. 2. Finish Canyon's lobotomy, schedule his vasectomy.

Revised list of things to do. Forget lobotomy, vasectomy, just kill Canyon.

Will (recorder) - What is it with my so-called generation, lost in a sleepy haze of mediocrity? They recount episodes of The Brady Bunch with more vividness than their own childhood memories. What they need is a super-hero for the millenium, a lone force of justice in a world that punishes originality. A hero who envisions a bold new world where original thinkers are celebrated and not condemned. Thus spoke Pizza Man. (He's referring to Thus Spoke Zarathustra)

Beside his relentless quest for Truth, there was only one thing precious to Pizza Man. Like any superhero, this damsel made him whole. She was a vision, a muse, the one pure thing in this mean-spirited ugly world. To be with her, was to be engulfed in a haze of flowers. She was his life.

Professor Friedman - What you have before you is a cautionary tale. I was the chariman on Mr. Sherman's honour thesis committee. His paper was a wanton assault on every principle this institution holds dear. Now, you should all be open to original thinkers, but his thesis wasn't original. It was an 80 page temper-tantrum. So, instead of re-writing it, he drops out of school. You can see that decision has gotten him far. Behold, ladies and gentlemen, this is what happens when you stray from my syllabus.

Will - Um, sir, with all do respect sir, why don't you take your Categorical Imperative, and shove it up your ass.

Will (recorder) - He left the cozy world of intellectual masturbation behind, stepped onto the gritty streets of the real world. Sheltered kids can only dream about the things Pizza Man has seen. Nothing's changed at the old alma mater. Pizza Man laughed in the face of his old archenemy Professor Putz. That old windbag never had an original thought in his life. But Professor Putz will live to regret his condemnation. Thus spoke Pizza Man.

Reed listening to tape, Will (previously recorded) - Faced in a world of enemies united against him, how could one man ever hope to vanquish the endless forces of conformity...always misunderstood, never belonging to their world, Pizza Man must live the lonely life, even when he tried to belong, even when he played by their rules, they still rejected him...they need a shot to the head to open their eyes, they need to taste real loneliness to see that their fashionable alienation is wrong... tear off the yoke of conformity, sleepwalkers, and think for yourselves. It's time to envision a bold new world where original thinkers are celebrated and not condemned. Thus spoke Pizza Man.

Reed - It's like what your friend Nietzsche says - That which doesn't kill you only kill you makes you stronger. If you're a man with ideas, different ideas, you're called the fool, because people are afraid. They're too dense to understand.

Reed - If the world is not the way you want it to be, then take action. Action brings about change.

Will - That philosophy doesn't work. I gave it up a long time ago. It's a fight you can't win.

Reed - You can't quit. There will always be dark times, but the darkness only makes the light more brilliant. I wanted to quit, I can't tell you how many times in my life I wanted to quit, but I didn't. And then suddenly, out of nowhere, something lands on my doorstep. And it saves me. You hang in there. Something's coming for you too.

Will - You know why people love to see the pizzaman? Because no matter how pathetic their feeble lives might be, they can always say, "at least I don't do that for a living."

Reed - Everyone needs to suffer a little bit. Every happy person is happy the exact same way, but every unhappy person is unhappy in their own unique way. (from Anna Karenina)

Will - That's from my tape recorder.

Reed - Yeah. I just needed someone to show me the way. It's like a prophet, or the voice of God. When filled with the Truth, you are commanded to act. And you're filled with the Truth.

Will - I gotta get going.

Reed - No, I understand, I understand, The Truth can be very hard to take. Just remember, everything's going to be alright, as long as we stick together.

Reed - Did you ever read the Bible, Will? You know it says in John, In the beginning there was the Word. See, that doesn't make sense to me, I mean, words can't create anything. Action created this world. I always thought it should be, In the beginning there was the Deed. Then I met you, and you changed all that. You were the Word, I was the Deed. I put the music to your lyrics. See, the Bible was right all along.

Will - You're talking about the Word of God, and all you've got is the word of some unhappy guy delivering pizzas, it's f-cking pathetic.

Reed - You broke my heart, Will.

Will - I always thought that I wanted to go crazy, you know, because all the great geniuses and artists have always gone crazy, but, well, I'm nuts, but I'm not genius nuts. Me, I'm just nuts nuts.

Reed - Will, save me

Will - I can't, I can't reach you

Will (recorder) - Once upon a time there lived a young man who aimed to please. He believed what was preached to him, did what he was told, and slaved day and night to win approval. It was a long and painful fall, but one glorious day, he had a revelation, the Truth that would define his life. It's not that the world didn't appreciate the genius, it's that the genius didn't appreciate the world, and the people in it. Afterall, solitude is a whole lot nicer when you have someone to share it with. And they lived ever after, maybe even happily.

This may sound sort of corny or cheesy, but thank you for having these on here. Whether you know it by "Delivered" or "Death By Pizza" it really is one of the better lesser-known films to come out of the 90's.
