Why artists? And what kind of artists? That always struck me as a way for Hollywood people with a lot of money to buy their way into the lottery. It would make much more sense to preselect some tradesmen. Farmers, builders, etc. Those skills seem pretty important, except perhaps for actually skilled classical musicians.

Umm, were you watching the same movie as everyone else BrandiStarBright? The East Coast was the part of the country that was decimated by the tidal wave. It's the West Coast that came out relatively unscathed. Had something like that actually happened, I'd be safe and sittin' pretty by the Pacific Ocean where I live. So long as the comets keep hitting the Atlantic, I'm good to go.

In the falae reality of the movie's premise, I'm sure that all the trades you listed were included. Concerning the inclusion of artists: music, storytelling, visual art and other arts are what makes us "human". We dream our past, present, and future... and tell each other about those visions through art. I'm not sure we could ever progress without it.

The artisian group includes people who are skilled at wood working, metal working, glass working. etc. It's not necessarily about those who can paint pretty pictures.
shareI agree we would need builders, tradesmen, but maybe they thought engineers could do that work. But artists are important to a society. They bring a creativity that can't be bought. They help us unwind, become less stressful. Help us positively grow, something a society needs. Arts give us hope.
