Kate being fired

I never could understand this...was Kate fired because of her performance or because of the priest's disapproval of her brother? Thank you for your help.

Kate was fired because of Uncle Jack. I'm currently playing Michael in a performance at my college, and as the play says "She was right about losing her job at the local school. The parish priest didn't take her back when the new term began, although that had more to do with Father Jack than with falling numbers." Earlier, Kate had wondered why the priest couldn't look her in the eye ever since Father Jack's return. Father Jack had become a stain on the Church's reputation - they had sent him to convert pagan tribes and he ended up joining and encouraging them, and therefore the Church disassociated itself with him and his family.
Hope this helps!

Catholic Church should have minded its own business and left the pagan tribes alone, did they ever consider that perhaps the pagan tribes didn't want to be converted?
