After reading the discription of this movie and seeing the cast I thought for sure Joey Lauren Adams would be the mother that ran off and Monica Potter would be the new love interest.

Maybe I thought this because of Monica Potter's work on Parenthood she just seems so nurturing I couldn't imagine her running off. Or maybe I picture Joey Lauren Adams as the flakey mother with her quirky voice. I just didn't see that coming. I think they could have swapped the roles of the two actresses or maybe it was just a miscast of Kate.

I'm probably being bias cause of Parenthood and had I seen this movie when it first came out I may not have not felt the same.

I loved Monica Potter too in Parenthood, but back then, Monica did play in some villainous roles like in Along Came a Spider.

SPOILERS would of liked to see more closure for Kate in this film, like maybe seek medical /mental help for being such an unfit mother. But that's why films from decades ago tend to look a bit outdated, since she's left being the bad person once again
