Does anyone else think......?

that this movie could have been enhanced if Seth were played by anyone other than Nicholas Cage?

lol.

No, I thought Nicolas Cage did a surprisingly good job as Seth the angel. People scoff at the *staring* he and the other angels do, but his eyes look made for that...plus don't you imagine angels might act that way? I do.

"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

I know people give Nicolas Cage crap for his acting (sometimes rightfully so) but you make such a good point there. On paper Nic Cage as an angel might not sound like such a good idea, but given the way they were portrayed in this film it makes perfect sense that the angels would behave in such a manner. Part of me wishes there were more of it, the angel stuff.

In general I find Nicolas to be a very capable actor. Dare I say Nicolas actually carried this film. Except of course for the scenes with Andre Braugher, who in my opinion steals the scene every time, he has such magnetism and a warm smile. So...even though I hear that Johnny Depp was initially approached for this role and I'd love to see what he would have created, I think Nic brought more of an edge whereas Johnny might have come off too endearing or too human. Take his looks + his well...Johnny-ness and it would have been a different film I guess.

To clarify by Johnny-ness I don't mean the Jack Sparrow/Mad Hatter/Dark Shadows Johnny but Benny and Joon/subtle Johnny.

Rest in Peace Russell Means...your legacy and impact will live on.

His "Johnny-ness" !! Too funny! And I know exactly what you mean by that phrase.

I thought Nicolas Cage did a fine job with this film. He was sweet, caring, understated, quiet... all the qualities I am looking for in an angel.

Yes, enhanced by about 200%.
