What do you think God is like?

This is for believers, non-believers and free-thinkers, free-spirits etc etc, I believe God doesn't have a physical form at all, I believe God can be anyone you envision when you die. Like I dreamnt that I envisioned God as Robin Williams then Rodney Dangerfield and lastly; the The Three Stooges.

This is a brilliant remark; however, it may kill a thread that could be promising. But I can't resist posting the finger up for your comment.

I'am guessing some type of pure energy that can change form. I know from reading the Bible he is a male. That you could not get near him or you would die. He had to give special orders to Moses to tell the people not to climb the mountain. He appears as fire that does not burn the burning bush. The reason why it was called the burning bush because it looked like it was burning but nothing was harmed. You can't gaze upon him, or you would go blind.

God is nothing more than make believe fairy tale to give us comfort for when the end comes...God is nothing more but a figment of our imaginations brought by chemicals in the brain upon death. God does not exsist if he does then he is a useless voyeur and nothing more..

For someone who has never met God you sure know alot about him.

reply

and we will never ever meet God so why talk about something that just doesn't exsist AND OF COURSE we can get near him if we meet him were dead so we wont die if we get near him... but he isn't real not one bit...

My favorite representation of God is in Kevin Smith's movie Dogma. I think God would be a lot like Alanis Morrisette, in that she's a jokester and does handstands in the garden. More than anything, I think God would be really fun to hang out with, it'd be like that friend that always makes you feel better if you're having a low day.

I can never understand the angry and vengeful ideas about God. I mean, if God is love, I don't exactly see him saying "tough tits" to anybody.

I'm open to finding out whenever He sees fit to reveal Himself to me. Maybe He already has. Maybe I was too blind to see. I'm confident I will see someday, and that's enough for me.

Well said, Warmfire. As curious as I am about what He is like, I'll see Him if and when He wants me to.

I do hope I get at least a glimpse in the eternity.

You're an atheist right? I wanted to ask an atheist this question, not to start a conflict just wanted to ask. Are you afraid of death? Because I am only when I am told there is no God and the idea that we all just die and vanish into nothing is just terrifying to me. So maybe you are right about God being something for comforts and all but like I said and this is just me, all the most beautiful places on Earth always makes me think 'How can there be no God when all of these beautiful places are here?' I hope they are still here even after I am gone.

So anyways what about you? What happens when we die? And how far is the extent of your atheism? Does that me you don't believe in ghosts or UFOs or Bigfoot or any of that supernatural stuff. For me ghosts yes, UFOs I believe in possibilities and bigfoot not enough to make me a believer.

There are some posts here that mention him not really existing. I watched a documentary a while back on DVD that I picked up at a store. It was about life after death and talked about all these people who die and come back. One case they reinacted for this was a man who was a total atheist and didn't believe in GOd at all. He truly fit a lot of those I had seen on TV that deny that a God exists. Well He died and I'd have to watch it again to really recall what happened to him in the afterlife for the short period he died but what I do recall is he saw that light everyone talks about and that incredibly feeling of love and when he came back to life that experience changed him totally. He no longer was an atheist and knew without a doubt that GOd existed. IT truly was interesting to see this. Had he not experienced that he would still be an atheist.

This reminds me also of Danyon Brinkly (not sure of spelling) who was the man who was struck by lightning and died. He then came back and had these abilities to sense other peoples pain and troubles when he would touch them. Anyway during his "death" he was made to relive all the horrible things he had done to people throughout his life and feel the pain he put upon others. He admitted he was quite a bully as a kid growing up. This made him feel such remorse for all the bad things he did to people and after he came back from this death it changed him as a person and he became a better human being.

I found it so neat that these kinds of life death experiences affects people such as them and even though we all don't go through something like this if one has an open mind and not be so unbelieving about such experiences, we all can learn from them. I can't help but believe that these experiences of others teach us there is something bigger out there after this life and that we should strive to live as good of a life as we can while here.

Very interesting stories, the lightning man one I find hard to believe because I believed only one man had powers of healing and whatever else; Jesus Christ. I have always had a strong belief that no mere mortal like I or myself should have any kind of great power because let's face it; we are not worthy. I believe God is anyone you could envision him or her to be when you die. One thing I could never do is not believe in the existance of a Supreme Being that is out there somewhere watching over us and who loves us no matter what black or white, gay or straight, no matter. My sister struggles with her faith and my youngest well she is too ignorant, mean, stuborn and down-right-impossible to have any kind of faith at all.

reply

I have never experienced anything that makes me think god exists.
The stories, while interesting, are just that. A few stories of people whom I have never met and only hear their stories second-hand is simply nothing to make me make the huge leap to the fact that a god exists.

Don't tell me that I have to have faith, because that is exactly what I don't believe in. I believe in my life, because I know that exists. If a god did exist, the last thing he should ever ask of anyone is blind faith.

reply

I think what I would tell someone like you is to look at the places you consider to being the most beautiful place in the world or what is the most beautiful thing on Earth that you have seen and ask yourself 'How can there never be a God if something like this wasn't made by a human being?'.

Does that make sense? I talk like the dumb dickens, you know.

reply

That is exactly what I have done sometimes. I think of such beautiful things that I can't imagine occurred just naturally on it's own like all the multicolored intricate butterflies and the designs of them, a firefly and how they light up, the changing of the seasons with different colors of leaves, the multi colored flowers, snow and how it just beautifies the world. There are just so many things and you think okay humans are the only ones that enjoy and see all this artistic creations. If nature is the one that creates it for our enjoyment than that alone should say wow nature is powerful or is it some higher being as well as why would there be a need for such design if not for the visual pleasure so there would be no real need to occur on it's own so seems some higher power has designed it.

reply

I reread my comment and I don't think I said he was able to heal. I only stated that he was able to sense others pain when he touched them or get flashes of what they were going through. There is a movie based on his experience if you can find it online. It starred Eric Roberts in the role. THe movie is called "Saved By the Light". Oh I found it on youtube. Here is the link.

For every person who has experienced something supernatural when they were clinically dead and come back, there are thousands of people who haven't experienced anything like that.

True but there are many that it has occurred to and I don't know why that many people would be making that up or lying and so many have seen some of the same things. THere also may be some it occurred to and do not remember the experience or may thought it was a dream or it is on a subconscious level and so they don't recall it. Who knows? But there are experience I have seen in documentaries of people that sound very sincere, do not sound at all like they are lying, but again so many experiences. Some could be lying but a lot probably are not and many have been afraid to tell because they don't think anyone would believe them and others who have that consistently after many years still tell the same story and assert it happened to them.

I think God has so many different facets, contradictions and presences that our puny brains can't even imagine it.

reply

Some of them were made by Humans, who knows if God shares those same views.

reply

No matter what anyone says or claims we don't know if their is a God.

We should learn from our past mistakes, so that we can make new ones.

It's funny when atheists claim that Christians and Catholics and so on tend to shove their belief down other people's throat, I never expected the same thing to come from an atheists.

Anyways it is just a thought, dwell on it, endulge me for a bit or yourself just for the Hell of it. (SIGH)

Uh, yeah, your point?

Pretty sure I never met him/her/it/them, whatever and I suppose I will after I die (unless there's some kind of chain of command I don't know about). And if it turns out there's nothing after we die, then I guess I'll never know!
