This show is my biggest fear!

I've always had this fear of going to jail for something I didn't do.. I can't imagine not being free! I have a hard time watching this movie because of this.. Tho it's still a great movie!

Agreed. Still love to travel, though. I'd love to see Thailand. I'll just make sure I triple check my bags before getting on a plane.

Thailand is an absolutely amazing place. I am moving there soon. The Thai people are some of the most beautiful people, inside and out, that you will ever meet in your life. You will have a wonderful time if you go there :) But just like when you travel to any other place, pack your own bags, and make sure they are in your sight at all times after they are packed. That's just a smart general rule for anytime you travel. Enjoy!!

As long as you get lie on a beach with a cocktail why should you care about human trafficing, sex slaves, paedophiles and tortured prisoners?

What makes you think US doesn't have all that? Plus corruption? And do you know how many people here are in prison who aren't guilty?

reply

I agree totally.. I saw in movies that Thailand is all about human trafficking, sex slaves and pedophiles.. I saw in other movies americans riding horses and shooting each other while drinking whiskey.. You know, everything you see in movies is absolutely true :)
On a side note, Thailand is absolutely gorgeous and the Thais are probably the nicest people on the planet..

Altho your point (we sholdn't assume that what we see in the movies is the whole story) is well taken, there's no disputing that Thailand is home to an enormous amount of sex tourism that exploits children and that Thai authorities do little about it. To me, that's a good reason to boycott a country and go somewhere else for my vacation. Hell, there are gorgeous beaches all over the world -- why spend money in such a place, which basically says "I condone your lax system, which allows for the destruction of children"?

Yes, every nation is flawed and every nation exploits some people -- but some nations are less icky than others, and a nation that does little to protect children is at the top of the ICKY list

"All you need to start an asylum is an empty room and the right kind of people."

"...Thailand is home to an enormous amount of sex tourism that exploits children..."

True, but so is America...

"Commercial sexual exploitation of children is a both a domestic and international problem. One count estimates sex trafficking to victimize more than 200,000 children in the United States annually (Bryan 2014; The Polaris Project 2012). An additional 244,000–360,000 children in the United States are at risk each year of being trafficked and sexually exploited (Bryan 2014; Adams, Owens, and Small 2010)."

It's even worse, unfortunately. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/top-five-countries-highest-rates-child-prostitution-1435448, it seems, any number between 1.4 to 2.4 million children are believed to be involved in underage sex-trafficking in the US. The thing is, American culture has a tendency to overlook its own problems and focus on other nations.
As for the previous poster, buddy, Thailand doesn't really "need" your money. Millions of tourists from all over the world visit Thailand yearly. I don't think the Thai population will starve and die because you didn't spend your $3k budget vacation there ;)

Too bad they treat animals so horribly

Don't be an idiot and you should be fine. I have never heard of a story like this where the people jailed were not guilty of something--even if that something is just being a complete moron and opening the door for something bad to happen to them.

My biggest fear is to be eaten alive by a tiger or a polar bear. Or a hyena. I hate hyenas!

Email is for geeks and pedophiles.

My biggest fear is that my cats will gouge out my eyes while I'm sleeping.

You got your mind right, Luke?

reply

These girls were stupid. Trusting a stranger they didn't know. Didn't check their bags before leaving or left their bags/suitcases unattended. All of the above could've been avoided.

reply

that's not this movie though.

darlene agreed to be a mule and eventually guilted alice into taking all the blame.

I know.

Every time I get on a plane now I am worried someone has sneaked drugs into my carry-on! 

This movie was just that, a movie, but you could say it kind of scared me, as it scared many others. As an up-and-coming travel agent, it just reminds me to keep learning all I can about exotic, mysterious places. I'd still consider going to Thailand, or almost anywhere, but not without learning something about the laws, of course. I kept thinking, imagine that. Made me think to be careful of even getting friendly abroad, STDs and otherwise. I'm not even sure why the Aussie did what he did. probably afraid of being discovered.

On the other hand, there are movies such as Hot Sex In Bangkok aka Inn of Temptation. Some of the worst dialogue you'll ever hear LOL, but it's a male softcore fantasy about Americans bamboozling Thai hookers into group deal, if you catch my drift.

The ending is famously not as hopeful as many more commercial movies, but they seem to be giving the viewer just a glimmer of hope when Claire Danes voice-overs that Bill Pullman would never stop trying till she was out. She didn't say she got out, but she didn't say she was still in prison. Sad about her and her friends' dads too. Hopefully Kate Beckinsale's dad's foot ended up in his mouth after that ending.
