Kilgore Trout

I notice I'm not the only person who thought that Albert Finney was miscast in the role. So who would you choose?

Personally, I'd go for Philip Baker Hall. He's a solid actor, and has almost exactly the look I always pictured Trout having.

How about Brian Cox? Although he looks a bit like Albert Finney...

Is that guy William Hickey still alive? Trout looks as fragile as him.

Really... I thought Finney was perfect. He was literally the exact person I pictured when I first read BoC.

I think that Eli Wallach would have been great as Kilgore Trout.

I like Albert Finney, but Trout is described as thin frail man, and Finney is on the heavier side.

But let's face it.....the film makers screwed up A LOT MORE on this film than miscasting a pivotal role.

When I was reading the book, I pictured Allan Arbus as Trout:

Also, I saw Peter Falk as Dwayne Hoover:

And Kurt Vonnegut as himself.

I thought Finney's Kilgore Trout was the only good part of the film - his mannerisms are exactly as I pictured Trout in Vonnegut's novels. Finney always excels in roles where he plays disgruntled eccentrics (e.g. Under the Volcano), so the casting was perfect.

Oddly, I always thought of Vonnegut himself when thinking of Kilgore Trout.
