I would've preferred a different direction with this franchise.
Instead of Mummy 2 and 3, etc., I would have liked the same cast of characters doing Frankenstein, and Wolfman, and Dracula, etc.

That's a pretty cool idea. That's definitely the template that should be used for this Dark Universe reboot they keep trying to launch.
shareThey should have just continued on with the Dark Universe idea after Cruise's Mummy. The film made almost half-a-billion dollars and I enjoyed it.

But what the hell, logic counts for shit in monster movies! Make Evie an expert in Bavarian history as well as Egyptology, even though she was raised in Egypt with an Egyptian mother. Writers of low-budget horror movies have always assumed that a scientist or historian knows everything about all sciences or all history, to hell with the specialization that happens in the real world.
Luckily, my imagination isn't as limited as yours.
And the third movie was set in China, not Egypt, so there goes your Egyptian restriction.
Lol, you're right, the Egyptian theme is certainly not a restriction. Rick was not an Egyptologist, but an adventurer. Through him they could've encountered a new monster they had to stop. I think it could've worked and made the sequels (which I hate) less contrived and repetitive.
shareI do agree that the sequels are lame. I remember being quite hyped for the second film and regarded it as a massive letdown when I saw it. The third is just a forgettable CGI movie.
It's such a shame that they did such a good job with the first film but then followed it up so poorly.

shareI was thinking more like a fun romp with different monsters in each movie. An updated version of the old Abbott and Costello movies, but slightly more serious.
In my opinion, the second movie would've been fresher if they moved onto something different, instead of the mummy again. Same with the third.
That's actually not a bad idea. Or a crossover with Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman reprising his role.
