Last great old-school adventure movie?

Or might that have been the first Pirates movie which in its defense has aged fairly well. CG skeletons not withstanding;maybe on par with some scenes with mummy Imhotep actually.

I disagree, I think this movie was not the end of the old era, but the beginning of the soulless CGI-centric modern fantasy/adventure film, the kind of film where the actors spend most of their working days in front of a green screen.

Note that this came out the same year as "The Phantom Menace", the exemplar of the new genre.

It might have been the beginning of a trend (action movies with prominent use of CGI), but you're forgetting how much practical effects are still used and how many scenes are actual sets. And pretty elaborate at that.

reply

Yeah plus the CGI in this movie isn't as garish as TPM.

reply

There are a few moments I dislike, but overall the CGI adds to the movie.

reply

Yeah, I would say Pirates of the Caribbean was the last one.

reply

It’s kind of silly

reply

I totally agree
