Movies aren't made like this anymore...

Someone said something in a recent post similar to this. I feel this movie doesn't take itself too seriously and just has fun. It makes for a better movie experience IMO

reply

I agree. Love all these movies. They don't make good ones anymore. I herd there rebooting these ones.

A movie that doesn't take itself seriously and just has fun ?

Crank/2? Fast and furious movies? 21 jump street? Cabin in the woods? Mission impossible Ghost Protocol?

They are made all of the time.

reply

I've never watched Crank 2 but the Fast and Furious movies and Mission Impossible, while having some bits of humor, are still too sleek and serious to be compared to this film. Also, they are way more "Action" and less "Adventure". 21 Jump Street is more straight Humor with some action sequences and Cabin in the Woods is more black comedy/horror.
I really can't think of one movie in the past decade to combine as wonderfully the Action/Adventure genre with tongue-in-cheek humor. Also the great use of a historical setting. I do feel movies like this aren't made anymore.

reply

I listed movies that didn't take itself seriously. None of those movies do. Despite genre.

If you want an action/adventure movie that doesn't take itself seriously then

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. This movie is just plain fun. Magnetic suits, chases through sand storms, explosions, humor, exotic locations. Great movie.

Adventures of Tintin. Again, just plain fun. Great action set pieces, great humor, pirate ship battles, great chase through a small city plowing through houses/buildings, fun characters. This has it all.

Action/adventure movies like the ones you are speaking of are still being made.

Go back to Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars. Action/Adventure movies weren't a one time only kind of genre.

reply

The more recent films you recommended are just not as good as this in any level at all. And they're talking about recent films, not older nostalgia films like Indiana Jones which were also highly influenced by the same action adventure Center films this was.

reply

What about Guardians of the Galaxy?

reply

I'd like to add The Adventures of Tintin to that list as well.

Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Mummy, and Tintin are my go-to adventure movies. Love 'em!

Judging from that list, you might also like "The Rocketeer".

I wish they didnt make movies like this anymore.

Out of curiosity, what type of movies do you think SHOULD be made?

Good ones.

reply

define "good", if Danger, suspense, romance, and comedy rolled into one doesn't fit that criteria.

Lol check out WHite House Down that doesn't take itself seriously either.

The thing about the mummy films is that they don't go halfway with their silliness, like the Indiana Jones films, they just go all out without sacrificing likable characters and a good story.

reply

Disagree. I hated Indiana Jones - those movies were all about Harrison Ford's ego.

"You have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you." Mr Darcy

reply

I agree. These days movies like this either take themselves too seriously or they're too much wink-wink.

reply

I agree, now you would have well Tom Cruise's Mummy and a fair bit of SJW bullshit as well.
