Brendan Fraser

Sorry but I think he comes across as a character actor trying desperately to pull off a leading man routine.

His attempts to deepen his voice throughout the first half or so of the movie are ridiculous. Listen to his real/natural voice as he cries out: "You're gonna get yours!" while being driven away from the hotel - the guy sounds like he should be on a sitcom.

And is it just me, or does it become painfully apparent that Fraser as an actor is attracted to Rachel Weisz, but not the other way around? You can tell the attraction is only 'represented' by her (a la the Representational style of acting), but actually FELT by him.

The movie is largely comedy, which is his genre, and therefore makes him a good lead. IMO

I would think that the lead actor and actress actually being friends would be a GOOD thing, because it helps their performance as love interests, and later spouses.

Brendan's voice is deep. When we think of deep voices, we think of 80%.

Completely disagree with the OP. Brendan Fraser was great in this movie. This part seemed to b meant for him.

I liked Brendan's character he's meant to be more Jack Burton than John Wayne. Shame he kinda vanished.

Perhaps you are just not looking in the right place.

Kurt Russell in "Big Trouble in Little China". Not a fan. And not a kid. Unless being a "kid at heart" qualifies.

This may or may not be true, but it actually works out in historical context. A "lady" could never be direct in her attraction. It would have to come across as gradual and coy.

The deep voice IS his REAL voice ! Why do you think it sounds so painful when he yells ?

I think both Rachel and Brendan were perfect casts. He looked masculine yet funny and light-hearted and they worked well with chemistry. So sad the 2nd movie wasn't up to par. Or the 3rd.

reply

Agree about them being perfectly casted. He played off the humor really well without coming across as silly. I also thought they had great chemistry.
