Why set the movie in the 1920s? It was made in 99, why not set it in 99?

Any particular reasoning? Was this movie based off a book or something? Or the producers just thouht, hey the 20s would be fun!

Don't look at me

Because they just felt like it?

The 1932 movie it was loosely based on was set in the 1920s. That movie in turn was inspired by the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922 and its supposed curse. Nowadays, most of the big burial sites and treasures have already been discovered, so it makes sense to place it in a historical setting. It also offers a more romantic and mysterious atmosphere.

I think that since this movie is a loose remake of the 1932 Karloff original Universal movie,
they decided to keep it in the same timeframe it was originally set in.

Also even though mummies had been found much earlier, it was during this time
that scientists began to study them with modern techniques, where they were able
to determine the process, fluids used to embalm the bodies, x-rays, etc...

What a dumb question. Have you seen the movie?

It's not a dumb question

"It's not a dumb question"

Had you actually seen the movie, you would know how severely dumb this question is.

reply

Well yeah if it was 1999 you know how easy/fast it would be for the government to get involved??

i honestly think they were trying to emulate an indiana jones vibe. this movie felt like a lesser indiana jones movie to me.

Well Tony, nobody wants a war. If we can't do business why we'll just shake hands and that'll be it!

reply

No, crystal skull was the lesser IJ film.

The Mummy was also a lesser Indiana Jones film.

Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered in the 1920's. Makes sense to set it in a period when egyptology was all the rage.

reply

1920s are known as Egyptomania in museum history. It's the only time period that makes sense for this imo.

Guess you didn't actually watch the movie lol
