So...before Imhotep's fully regenerated, he's frightened of cats. Why didn't they just carry cats around with them while escaping...?

I think he means that Imhotep and all the *beep* going down in Egypt at that point in the film (fire falling from the sky, eclipses ect) might have scared most of them off. Imhotep don't likr cats, and cats don't like Imhotep- but i agree, there should have been a few nearby.

It's not exactly easy to carry around a cat. They will become restless and agitated, and start to bite and scratch.

I'm with you on that one. I would've gotten a basket full of cats and kittens and would have just kept it with me at all times. The way I see it Imhotep will fear cats until he is fully regenerated. So if the people who opened the chest carry cats with them at all times he will be too afraid to strip their flesh and consume them. If he is unable to strip their flesh and consume them he will NEVER be fully regenerated. But of course then there wouldn't be a movie but if this was for realsies I would become a cat lady asap.
shareIt was stated in the movie that "the creature" (Imhotep) was freightened of cats because they are gatekeepers of the underworld, untill the creature was fully restored in his natural form.
After that the creature was scared of nothing.
Hence, after the restoration of Imhotep it would have been useless to wander about with stray cats at your side, other than to cuddle once in a while.
But because of, you know, they where chased bij Imhotep there would not be much time to go and cuddle with cats.
The creature can only be FULLY restored to this natural form though if he's able to consume and eat the people who had touched the sacred jars. But if the people who touched the jars had cats with them from the beginning he would not have been able to consume them in the first place and therefore would not be able to be restored.

I was just watching this. I remember thinking during the mob scene "if they scare Imhotep off again with another cat, that's gonna be really lame."
Ultimately, it would have just gotten repetitive to see him run away from someone with a cat. I'm glad they didn't use it multiple times.

shareI feel like even if they kept cats around them at all times, Imhotep would tell Beni to kill the cats for him. Once the cats are all dead then Imhotep would swoop back in.
