Song Question-- Not on Soundtrack.

The song that's playing on the radio, almost at the end, when Diane Lane is peeling potatoes with her mother-in-law. Its an oldie I've heard before but I can't remember who sings it or the name. Any help would be appreciated, I'm going nuts!

I just finished the movie and the song is : Israelites by Desmond Dekker. He also was known for: The Harder They Come

You are awesome, thank you. I've been wondering about that song for quite some time. Thanks again.

Correct answer, but actually it is Jimmy Cliff who is known for The Harder They Come. Desmond Dekker does however appear on the soundtrack to the movie The Harder They Come.

I also have a song question. Does anyone know the name of the song playing while DL & VM are "playing" in the lake and under the waterfall? I'd really appreciate your help.

Joni Mitchell's "Cactus Tree". If you aren't familiar with Joni's work, do yourself a favor and listen to "Court and Spark" and "Hejira".

Thank you so much!!! *S*

The songs connected to the selected scenes have deep meaning, adding extra dialogue to the script.

Joni Mitchell’s “Cactus Tree” is playing during the waterfall scene. According to rbhsjukebox, the song is a look at the darker side of independence, showing how refusing to make a choice can be a tragic choice in itself. The protagonist is a woman who dabbles with a wide variety of men, refusing to be tied down. Mitchell never condemns this choice, but shows that it does have consequences. I thought this would be a better choice for the Walker Pearl breakup scene.

Alison and Pearl are probably both at Woodstock Saturday morning, assuming Marty called Pearl on Friday night to say he couldn’t make it to their bungalow, and the girls left that same night. Richie Havens played Friday at about 5 pm Friday, not Saturday morning, but it was clever to hear him singing “freedom” when Pearl was on the screen and “I feel like a motherless child” for Alison.

Pearl is giddily preparing for her hook-up with the Blouse Man. (I found it heartbreaking that Pearl joyfully asks her daughter’s opinion about which outfit Pearl should wear to cheat on her father). The song in the background is “Sally Goes Round the Roses” an obscure song about cheating.

Janice Joplin’s “Summertime” was an great, uneasy song for the lead up to Pearl and the Blouse Man’s tryst. “Today, I feel like pleasing you” from “Today” is sung when Pearl and the Blouse Man do the deed on the dirty floor of his bus. “White Bird in a Golden Cage” played in Walker’s room when Pearl visited him, a great a parallel to Pearl being trapped.

The change of music from the beginning of the movie to the end represented the drastic change in the Kantrowitz’s lives. It began with a silly Marty tune “Bluebird” and ended with with the psychedelic “Purple Haze” (which was being played at Woodstock by Jimi Hendrix at about the same time Pearl confesses her affair with Marty.

WOW!!! That's amazing! To be able to hear those songs in the backround and connect them all with "their part" is a gift; hold onto it as long as you can. The older I get, the harder it is for me to follow subplots and their meanings. If I get up to let the dogs out while watching a movie, I'm lost by the time I get back to the couch! Lol
Thank you for all that information. If I could, I'd send you a cookie right through my phone. ???
