Directed by POTUS from "Scandal"

Watching a recent interview with Tony Goldwyn who plays the President of the US in "Scandal", he mentioned he directed a couple of episodes of "Scandal". He never mentioned he directed this movie. He did a terrific job on this. I am surprised he has not directed a lot more over the past 16 years. Maybe he prefers acting...

This is a solid, well-constructed movie that may never end up on the critic's Top Fifty of Film History, but is still a great movie. It's a period piece that perfectly captures the slice of time & place it portrays. Late sixties US "hippie period" during the early years of TV & the mind-blowing first moon walk by US astronauts, and also the predominantly Jewish middle class summer resorts in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. Great actors, great casting and tells a very simple, very poignant story very, very well. I've watched this movie many times since it was released 16 years ago. So what if it's a chick flick. This movie has "legs" -- really holds up over the years.

There are so many wonderful moments. When Diane Lane's character talks to her daughter about sex -- how the daughter would not have been born if Diane Lane did not have premarital sex -- she, as a mother, does not recommend having sex when young. That she would never regret having her daughter, but that she had to cut short her education, travels, etc. since she stayed home w/her young husband to be a loving mother to their daughter. As a mother, she often wonders what she might have done with her life if she had waited to have children. It's a tough subject, and Diane handles the scene brilliantly. >>SPOILER ALERT Also when Diane goes to break up with the Blouse Man [Viggo], and tell him she's not going to run away with him. It's just plain sad. Well written, well-acted and well-directed. Diane Lane is truly an underrated actress. She's delivered some powerful moments in several movies that rarely get wide praise. Bravo to Ms. Lane [although her New York accent is a bit dicey...]

Outstanding script by Pamela Gray & directorial work by who???? Tony Goldwyn, that's who! Who knew? As many times as I have watched this movie, it never clicked until recently that he directed this very decent, small-budget movie. Congrats to him.

P. S.
First ~~ can I say for everyone who already knew that Tony Goldwyn directed this movie ~~ good for you. There is so much "product" out there on the market, on Netflix, Hulu, etc etc who can keep up with everything? I try.
