Anyone else see this as more of a vampire movie instead of a superhero film?
I know he's got a long history in Marvel comics, but my first thought about the Blade movies isn't 'oh yeah the superhero'.
shareI know he's got a long history in Marvel comics, but my first thought about the Blade movies isn't 'oh yeah the superhero'.
shareWell it's both. The vampires are the villains and Blade is the hero.
shareProbably the more on target POV is that Blade was not viewed as a comic book character nor Marvel Superhero when it was first received in theaters.
Few knew that Blade was even associated with Marvel and it was Blade that enhanced Marvel, not the other way around. Plus Wesley made Blade cooler, badder and sexier than he ever was on the printed page.
Lastly the killer soundtrack was one that was so good that I went out and bought it. Several songs on that soundtrack still hit the mark today.
Blade was a relatively low tier character as far as fans and book titles were concerned.
Man, that soundtrack was fantastic. Confusion, Struck by Lightning, Chin Chin.
I loved that shit back then.

It has that repetitive Euro-Tech "Rave" thing working overtime.
Confusion (Pump Panel Reconstruction Mix) - New Order.
Back in the late 90s when my sound system cost more than my car, I must have logged about 100 hours of this song from the Blade soundtrack CD. That along with Crystal Method, Rob D, DJ Icey and others. Good times.
Unfortunately, this one wasn't on that CD and it wasn't until I found it on youtube years later that I had a chance to listen to it outside of the movie. By then, I had outgrown the whole thing.

Yes, that’s why I like them, it has more in common with Underworld than Iron Man or Hulk.
shareYes, I say so. I guess it could be a superhero movie in the sense that Matrix might be a superhero movie too.
But when I think of “Superhero movies,” I think of protagonists who originated in comic books. I truly didn’t know that Blade came from comics until way later, around the mid-2000s.
