Disgustingly underrated

Easily one of the better comic book movies and yet it's seldom mentioned. Puts trash like 'Black Panther' to shame which for some reason people think is the first black superhero movie.

I have nothing against Black Panther, other than it being overrated which isn’t unusual with blockbusters, but I agree Blade is a much better film. Maybe it seems to fall into the vampire genre for a lot of people, could explain why it gets overlooked when people talk about great superhero movies. If it does get overlooked. I actually thought it was fairly well liked and respected as a movie on its own.

I dunno. It often gets included with Spider-Man and X-Men when people mention the genesis of modern comic movies. Seems like it gets a lot of respect.

Agreed; Blade was an absolutely great film and a terrific comic book adaptation. I think the reason it didn't have more 'staying' power was the end with Frost becoming the blood god; got a little off the walls and then him 'blowing; up was almost silly with how bad the graphics were; it reminded me of a more crude version of Thunder blowing up in Big Trouble in Little China (where it actually was intentionally humorous).

The bigger issue was the fact that Blade ended up having 2 very terrible sequels that sort of dragged the first film down.

I agree that when Black Panther came out; I was saddened by how forgotten Blade was. It was a much better film than Black Panther.

Fuck Blade.

Remember Spawn!

Michael Jai White would hand Snipes his ass.

Blade was introduced in 1973 but Black Panther was introduced in 1966, which was indeed Marvel's first Black superhero. Some audiences read into that whichever way they wanted.

The Falcon introduced in 1969 by Marvel was arguably the first African-American superhero on the print page for mainstream comics. The general public overlooked Blade due to their box office fascination. Blade was profitable despite being rated "R".

first black superhero movie.

I don't believe it's underrated but I think it's good

After The Crow, this one was probably my favorite superhero movie.

Blade 1998 is definitely grossly under aged. It managed to be a success well before Marvel comic book movies became a viable box office staple. I wouldn't say black panther was trash though. It was a perfectly okay popcorn comic book film (helped significantly by an interesting antagonist) & honestly all modern MCU comic movies are overrated as all hell.

i still love this film.
