Camaro

I know it's an '88, but is it an I-ROC or a RS? Anyone?

I realize this is old but wanted to answer. It's a Camaro Z28 witrh the IROC (option code B4Z) option package. this is evidenced by the wheels (16" instead of 15"),badging/stripes and the 5.7 emblem on the rear bumper (this motor was only available with the IROC package cars). And most likely it's a '87 given the appearance those are factory T-tops. From '88 on the factory T-top option (option code CC-1) was not avaiable with the 5.7 = 350(option code B2L/L98) motor. Although you could get aftermarket T-tops installed at the dealer. It's also interesting to note this car is a radio delete. This is evidenced by the blank plate where the radio would be in the center stack.

Actually, t-tops were still available from the factory with the 5.7 motor at least up through 1989. I've seen tons of 89's with factory t-tops and the 5.7, in fact I just finished stripping an 89 at the junkyard a couple of weeks ago with t-tops and the 5.7(L98). T-tops started disappearing around 1990 on the 350 cars. A buddy of mine has a 1990 5.7 Iroc and it's a hardtop. The Camaro in this movie is definitely an 87 though. The dead giveaway is the single-line style Iroc rims. Those came on the 85-87 Irocs. 88-90 Irocs got the double-line style rims. I'm the proud owner of an 89 that started life as a RS, but has been converted to a fully loaded Iroc over the years! :o) T-tops and the 350 are no problem on mine since I had Alston weld-on subframe connectors installed several years ago. Has zero body-flex now! I always hate seeing a nice Camaro getting trashed, but then again, 3rd gen Irocs were a dime a dozen in 1998! Same goes for the Monte SS that got blown up, which was totally unrealistic btw.

I agree in not wanting to see nice cars like these destroyed but movie budgets being what they are they don't seem to care. And you're correct about the single line IROC wheels.

I do have to disagree with factory T-tops being available with the 5.7 on either F-Bodys (Camaro or Firebird)after 1987. They only way you could get the B2L/L98(TPI 350) was;
1) Z28 hardtop coupe with RPO-B4Z option and RPO-MXO 700R4 automatic transmission
2) You could have T-tops either dealer installed or some dealers had them installed prior to sales. You can tell the aftermarket T-tops a couple ways in visually they are smaller (don't got as far onto front header) and on the Service Production Information Decal (SPID) that list options RPO-CC1 is the code for factory T-tops.

I think you've got it backwards. '87 was the first year for the 5.7 and T-tops weren't available. They were on later years.
