I actually liked it.

hot women, awesome fight scenes, killer soundtrack, cool sets & costumes, plus
Lambert with the white hair. The right ingredients for an entertaining low-budget movie.

I think that makes 3. Welcome aboard Mr Tito.

It was your magic that brought me to this thread. Make that four.

reply

Make it 5.

Lambert is the man. Especially with white hair.

Guess the beast didn't eat all of us

I like it quite a bit, despite its countless flaws. If only they had a bigger budget. Still, Lambert as Beowulf was enough to keep me happy throughout.

Gotta say hey to tbone. Oh yeah, Rhona Mitra...Oh My.

ResE has wandered in from the border region!

SIAP, I thought it would have been great if it had been called something else as "Beowulf" raises a lot of expectations.

reply

My expectations were "Straight To Video Lambert Movie"....Thats an actual rating on my expectation scale. Lots a really cool ideas floating around this jumbled mess of a movie. Wonder if Lambert was telling the truth about the budget originally being 25 million dollars.

I'm guessing you saw Mortal Kombat? This Beowulf was basically the same thing set in a castle.

reply

Of course. It came out when I was 15 and I watched it like 3 times in theaters. Sadly, I over looked Beowulf until a couple of months ago(Comcast on Demand). One thing that bothered me about this was how it was shot. Its like the director was trying to be really hip and cool, but just kept shooting these weird angles that made very little sense. Still, screw it, I liked it. Sci-Fi, Industrial Music, Over the top action and Christopher Lambert...Whats not to love?

Just saw a scene of Resident Evil Afterlife. The watery fight between the two women and the axe monster reminded me of the first Beowulf vs Monster fight, which also included other persons and a lot of splashing, and funny camera angles.

reply

Man, Afterlife was terrible. The whole Multiple Alice thing at the beginning was just god awful in every way.

Doesn't one of them end with her having an army of her own clones?

reply

That was Extinction, which is the best film in the series(At least as a time waster.).

reply

I think #2 is the most underappreciated. It was pretty well paced, the graveyard scene got actual suspense. Maybe it didn't feel like a direct sequel to the first one, where have we heard that before?

reply

See, I'm a huge Resident Evil game fan and the second movie pretty much ruined everything it was based on. It's the 4th worst movie in the series, barely surpassing the awful Afterlife.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed Retribution to an extent, as it had some actual character development(not a lot, but some) and was, for the most part, entertaining.

Do the games have a story that goes beyond clear the board of monsters?

reply

Yes. While it's convoluted as hell, the series has a ton of back story. A lot of it is told through notes found in the game. And it's not much that they butchered the story, they butchered the Characters. Eh, I didn't like Apocalypse very much at all. Still, I own it on DVD. Gotta complete my Resident Evil collection of crap. lol

Originally was supposed to be a 25 million dollars budget movie. But I think
after Mortal Kombat - Annihilation bombed at the box-office, the budget was
drastically reduced.

I thought it was ok and I agree with your reasons
