Saw this in my English class- Mystery Science Theater 3000 Material!

seriously this movie is great fun to watch with a group of people that read the actual story and now watch the movie. This movie is so hilarious, i couldn't stop laughing. Its as if.. i don't know- this movie was made to be made fun of every single second. The action scenes are pathetic, they defy logic- THE TIME PERIOD AND TECHNOLOGY DEFIES ALL COMMON SENSE- in all seriousness, please watch this movie if you wish to laugh your head off.

I saw this in my English class too. The whole class was laughing their ass off. Its funny they have elavators, but have to use torches wtf. It got my attention when that chick got a knee in the face at the beginning, I was laughing so hard. I agree you should read the story first then watch the movie.

Oh my god. My friends and I bet our English teacher that we could make a better Beowulf movie than that one and ours was 8 minutes long from one camera angle and I honestly think ours was better. The best part of the movie was that the first 20 minutes or so are dedicated to Beowulf rescuing that girl and then after a pathetic 20 minute battle sequence, she runs away and is killed. If you love horrible movies to make fun of, rent Hollywood Cop. You might have to buy it on Ebay but it would be totally worth it. I'm pretty sure an eight year old wrote the script.

I also saw this movie for my english class!..I was laughing so hard..I couldn't stop..I mean..the music at the beginning...chu-chu-chu..the hair of beowulf..his expression...the monster.the mother of the monster..come one!...

"You are not sending MEEE to the cooler!"

"I want the car. Chicks dig the car."

My teacher brought a copy to class for us to look at, but she refused to show it to us, as we had a test on Beowulf the next day and she didn't want us to watch the movie then screw up. Also because she admitted the movie was God-awful.
I wrote the test, then borrowed the movie, and whoo-boy. Laughed so damn hard.

Hey! i really liked this movie, sure it's a B-movie, but it is a GOOD B-movie!
so what if the time period does not make sense! have you ever heard of steam punk?

anyway B-movies like this are much more fun than the crap "A-movies" these days!

reply

Has steampunk ever heard of literary canon?
I'm just saying this movie screwed the original material beyond recognition and it's a good thing no one is trying to learn anything serious from this movie. It wasn't so much more "modern" technology than the period should have allowed and following a logical developmental timeline in a different setting as bits and pieces picked for convenience to the plot and setting and pasted together. There was no consistancy--and it came across as laughably anachronistic.

Glad I read this post. I was considering showing this to MY English class- I'm a teacher- but I'd never seen it. Sounds like I might want to wait until after the test, eh?

reply

Um, no. Don't wait until after the test. Just don't show it at all. In all honestly, the movie is absolutely horrible, and I can't think of a single high school in the country that wouldn't fire a teacher for showing a movie with such explicit sex and nudity.

Maybe it's OK to show to an English class of college students, considering Grendel's mom displays her nipples 99% of the time. & I prefer to show the '00s "Beowulf" w/ Angelina Jolie; I haven't seen it & presume it's duller then the 1999 film. But since the '90s version is far from educational (or loyal to the original), I'd suggest it as a reward & screen it after the test. Maybe even reward an extra credit point to a student w/ the best MST3K-esque riff. Incidentally, if I made a book report based on the Christopher Lambert movie, I'm sure to get an F. So I'd be better off using Wikipedia for the report & get a D-.

It's indeed a laugh riot. Though not as good a laugh riot as those who SERIOUSLY consider this a good movie. I came across such a weird woman on a forum once. That's when I immediately knew I had accidently found a total weirdo forum. People so detached from all what good cinema is you think they're actually pulling your leg.
So be grateful utter crud like this is made. You'll spot the wackos a mile away.
