This movie scared the crap out of me!!!

I consider myself a horror lover and am not easily shaken by many films, but this movie scared me to the bone!!! I am absorbed with this film and its every meaning which I see is very difficult since I didn't read the book...

I happened upon this movie last night 15 minutes in... I understood a lot more of this movie than most of the posts I've read about this movie... I understood right away about the otherworldliness of Beloved.. She scared me to death in the entire movie from the moment of her appearance... I totally got the symbolism of Sethe's "Water breaking" immediately... I knew she wasn't urinating... It was quite obvious!!!

I never knew that "Sweet Home" was an actual "Place" let alone a Plantation!! I always knew it as a song.... Stupid I guess, but I am yet even more horrified... I looked up the name, "Sweet Home Plantation", and find that people are using this as a venue for Weddings!!! OMG!!! What??? How could you get married on a plantation where slavery existed and was so horribly savage!!! I am in shock yet again!!!

There was a lot that I don't understand, especially about the horrors of slavery.... How slaves' children are sold as property... How Sethe was so brutally beaten and raped and treated as less than human... I know this is American History and everything, but to have it put into motion in movie form, makes it much more real and you can't help but get it more, especially as a white woman who was not brought up with the horrors of these memories in my family and I hope this doesn't sound foolish or ignorant, sincerely....

I am watching this film again, now, on Amazon, to try and get a better understanding. As I stated before, I missed the first 15 minutes of this movie when I saw it yesterday, and thought that Sethe's two boys had been killed by Sethe in the shed, but seeing the first part now, I see the boys ran off after the malevolent spirit of the dead baby scared them away..... I'm happy to know that they weren't killed by their mother after all..... I thought in the end of the movie where Sethe sees her boys coming home to her was just in her maddened mind since her "Beloved" returned!!!

Side Note: I was kind of confused with the character's reminding me so much of "The Color Purple" I cannot ever like Danny Glover again!!!! I he still makes me sick in Beloved, especially with the horrible scene in the shed or whatever it was with being with Beloved, even though I understand that she had cast some kind of spell on him now and that he really had no control over it....

Sorry if I'm rambling on, I just have so much to say!!! This is why I do not watch Dramas!!! It is too real for me and makes me "feel" too much.. This is why I like my horror flicks... It's not real and is obviously fake....

Oh, so I see now, that Paul D knew right away that there was evil in the house when he walked in... with all the RED!!!

I couldn't stand the "Denver" Character at all!!! I liked her in the end, however, but she killed me with her sad, broken eyes the entire movie... Wow, just saw the part in the beginning where "Denver" broke down, I can understand her a bit more now... Ok, so I'm all caught up now...

The Milk parts really horrified me as well.... How can someone take a woman's milk... Horrible... Disgusting.... Unthinkable!!!! OMG... Holy chills.... this is so freaking horrible!!! I'm ashamed!!! I know God will have them taken care of, that's for damn sure!!! Good Lord....

I know I'm all over the place with this, but so is this movie!!!!

How were the girls, Sethe and Denver, not horrified by Beloved???? She reeked with death and evil....

I love in this movie, how the town comes together to feed Denver and her family when they find out they are starving and things are not right in that house... I loved the "Togetherness" of the church and God's people.... It helps with the evilness I am blinded by.... On another side note, I thank the Lord that I am going to see Joel Osteen on Friday!!! I need my eyes and mind cleansed!!!!

In conclusion, I am stuck with all this ugly in my head now and am trying to figure out how to deal with it.....

Thank you for letting me say my piece......

KMSL...You sound like me when I first watched it almost 20 yrs ago at the drive in of all places. I was totally creeped out yet very intrigued at the same time. It was a double feature and I was actually there to see the other movie but after watching Beloved first, my mind was totally distracted by the time the other movie started. However, apparently not many people share our enthusiasm because if I remember correctly, it was a huge flop at the box office  Go figure.

The film was intended (apparently) as a drama but it's a hidden horror film. I'm a horror fan as well, Beloved was an atmospheric horror masterpiece. There isn't a single film more creepy. After watching this film the vibe will stay with you for days so beware.
