This movie was so overlooked for awards etc. all the acting is great and so many scenes made me cry , it was very emotional . One particular scene was a young sethe meeting amy Denver in the woods and after amy helped deliver her baby she says " shes never gonna know me , you tell her amy Denver brought her into the world " such a great film .
shareIt's a great movie. It never got the respect it deserved; Oprah went all-out for this movie. It was made 14 years before "12 Years a Slave," as a brutally-realistic (with the exception of the supernatural element) slave story but, 12YAS got all these accolades and Beloved got nada. I feel it's because the protagonist in 12YAS was male.
shareIn my opinion 12 Years a Slave was the better film. It's beautiful to look at and extremely well-acted. Beloved was not bad, but I did have some issues with it. For example, the flashback scenes of when Sethe was a slave were excellent and very effective, but the supernatural element should have been handled differently. The cinematography wasn't that great either, the colors were just blah, although there were some very nice camera angles. The performances were good, but no where near as good as in 12 Years a Slave.
This is just my opinion though.
I haven't seen 12 Years a Slave, but I feel that the acting in Beloved was outstanding!!!
