did anyone else wonder about this?

This question is about Moyra (who wasnt in the novel, only in the film/mini series.) At Sophia and Constantino's wedding, Moyra keeps complaining that no one will speak English to her, since they're in Palermo and everyone speaks Sicilian. But after she marries into the Luciano family, do we assume that she can understand Sicilian or the rest of the family can speak English? And likewise, when the widows move to NY from Palermo, are we to assume that they can just speak English with everyone? Does Luka know English before his adopted father takes him to America? I know that throughout the film, they have to speak English so we can understand them. But it's not clear how the people from different countries can understand one another so easily. Did I miss something in the book?

There was no Moyra in the book. Regarding the other characters, we have to assume they are all bulingual. Although it is unlikely that they would have been able to speak English perfectly. Jut like the fact that most of the characters don't seem to age, jut forget about the realities, and enjoy this interesting film. especially Natassja Kinski.

I have always loved , Nastassja Kinski |- my brother was IN love w/her; I was born and raised in New Orleans (still live in New Orleans, but not my childhood home - Uptown, near the Zoo, I live in another parish but its not far from New Orleans), well anyway when "Cat People" was made, they filmed it like 3 blocks from my home - I lived very close to the Audubon Zoo, I could actually hear the Lions, monkeys, tigers (the Zoo has since been renovated - its so beautiful).. I was in my mid teens when they were filming and I wanted to meet Nastassja so bad - also adored Malcolm McDowell as well, "A Clockwork Orange" was one of my favorite movies - of course, I was WAY to young to see it - so when I reached a certain age - my brother got it and I watched it - all I have to say is WOW! Malcom McDowell was PURE GENIUS in that movie - yeah quite graphic, but again the movie was fantastic. CAN YOU IMAGINE HOLLYWOOD IS THINKING OF REMAKING "A Clockwork Orange", WTF? Who could play MM's role Alex? If Heath Ledger hadn't died (another favorite actor of mine, he was brilliant, I think he could've been the ONE to play Alex) Heath Ledger will always be a legend, he proved how great he was as the Joker, "Brokeback Mountain" and too many other movies to name - because he was that GREAT! ..

I wish I would've met him and Nastassja when they filmed "Cat People" because the filming was so close to my childhood home.. Bella Mafia had some GREAT actors in it, and I enjoyed it a lot. Marsden did a freaking great job - his acting was unforgettable !!!

Sorry for the rant - I just love this movie and had to tell ya'll just how close of a chance I had to meet Nastassja!!! I HAVE met several movie stars while they filmed down here - one of them is the GREAT Clint Eastwood; he was filming "Tightrope", we actually talked for like 20 minutes, he was so down to earth; I told him how he is one of my dad's favorite actors - I got an autograph!! He was walking down Bourbon Street (my police friend was working detail by guarding Clint, and he's the one who got me to meet and talk w/Clint) I was so excited, and my dad was so happy for me..
