Bravest Sequel Ever?

I can't think of another children's film that took so many risks.
Completely original, thought-provoking, artistic, moving, honestly disturbing.

It amazes me that Universal Pictures didn't follow Babe with a safe family-friendly movie that could replicate the success of the original. I know this film always divided opinion, but I love it. It has so much deeper meaning, says so much about discrimination, it's beautiful and has some truly unforgettable scenes. I don't understand the score of 5.8 - Much watch film for all ages in my opinion.

It is very well done and has some of the most truly beautiful and heartbreaking moments that I have seen in any film, no matter what age it is intended for. With that said, I can definitely understand why parents and their children were unhappy with it. The first film showed some of the unpleasant aspects of Babe's life, but this one brings it much more to the foreground and includes more sequences of peril that even I admit are a bit intense for younger viewers.

I don't really think it was up to Universal. I'm pretty sure George Miller owns all his own properties, e.g. the Mad Max title, Happy Feet, and Babe. I'm sure Hollywood would have liked to re-boot Mad Max 10 years ago, too, but Miller takes his own time with his properties. It was his decision to take the "Babe" series in a darker direction.

Did I not love him, Cooch? MY OWN FLESH I DIDN'T LOVE BETTER!!! But he had to say 'Nooooooooo'

Yep. A unique and underrated masterpiece scorned by many people simply because it went in a different, darker direction than the original.

Roger Ebert said it best: "I liked "Babe" for all the usual reasons, but I like "Babe: Pig in the City" more, and not for any of the usual reasons, because here is a movie utterly bereft of usual reasons."

How does Three Stooges style violence make this darker?

I agree this was an unusual and wonderful, definitely underrated film. Read Roger Ebert's review of this movie on his website...People who didn't like this film obviously didn't understand it at all...The same people who only want sugar-coated dreck....

Gene Siskel loved it too, and actually thought it was the best film of 1998.
