holy crap this is appalling....

i'm 17 and i dont have kids, so i cant say whether a young child would like this movie or if parents would be happy to let their little gems watch this, but i can safely put my hand up my arse and say that that is the WORST film i have ever sat through.

It's on channel 3 at the moment and my sister and i are having hysterics and the barbaric nature of this film

- i CANNOT believe that they show this to children. I am appalled.

Just when the doggy in the wheelchair was flung across the road and he's TWITCHING! whether the dog was fine or not is irrelevant, it was horrible!! and the fishbowl bit - with the fish just flopping around on the floor, that's horrible!!

but the most horrible bit - when the bad dog chasing Pig was HANGING from the chain slowly drowning - JESUS CHRIST that was HORRIBLE i am stunned and cannot get over just how horrible it was.

if you havent watched this movie - dont - if you have and you liked it - you're a wierdo - if you have and you don't - good boy/girl.

reply

Don't tell other people not to watch this just because you are easily disturbed. This film is fricking great

reply

I thought the film sucked, to be honest. But I didn't lose sleep over it.

Finnigan...ARGH!!!!

reply

My god, if you were freaked out by those bits you are an idiot. A lot of childrens movies are FAR worse in content - just look to the Witches or Watership Down, movies that children are likely to watch.

reply

I'm not an idiot, and I wasn't freaked out - I was just wondering why on earth they would show things like that in a children's movie. Sorry, but a dog slowly drowning, by hanging from its paw by a bridge. Sorry - but that's wrong - and it's just my opinion.

And the chap who said the film was 'frickin great' - have you watched any other movies in your life? because if you have, you'll see that there is absolutely *nothing* frickin' great about it.

reply

I don't see it as wrong - its just a movie, a lot of childrens movies are far darker. A lot of freaky, 'wrong' things are shown in childrens movies and to be honest, far worse things happen in real life than can be shown in any movie.

reply

Oh, cry me a *beep* river, honestly.

Grow a backbone, there's worse movies out there.

reply

Do you also believe that we should abstain from watching Bambi, Dumbo, The Lady & the Tramp, and The Lion King? These films all have such terrible cruelty..... and, again, it's all MAKE BELIEVE. Maybe we should also never watch The Pianist.... I mean, sure it's based on a true story, but what a horrific, haunting cinematic masterpiece! It might make you uncomfortable! Poor baby!

There was no cursing, no drug-use, no sex, no nudity, and most of the violence was done in a comical way. The only reason you want this to be rated more harshly is because the scene of a fake dog fake-drowning makes you uncomfortable. How are kids supposed to learn if they don't experience these things? You can have a conversation, explain it was fake, etc. It's not that difficult. BE a parent, stop asking for everyone to do the job for you..... Lion King - murder. Dumbo - animal abuse. Lady & the Tramp - euthanasia. But those are okay, right? Because it doesn't look as real. Gt over yourself and put on the grown-up pants.

What a ridiculous post. "If you don't like this movie you're a weirdo".

How about if you didn't like it, maybe just MAYBE you missed something that the rest of us actually understood? I'm not saying you're an idiot, although you probably are, but maybe you just weren't in a good mood that day, maybe you missed the beginning of the movie, maybe because you're 17 you are too old to feel the movie and too young to understand it. Who knows? I'm sure I don't. But basically in your analysis of the film you've mentioned nothing but all these images of animals in pain and you haven't given any indication as far as what the film-makers were trying to say by including these images? Maybe you were so upset that the dog was hanging off the bridge you didn't notice how Babe saved his life and befriended him?

Maybe I should just not take anyone seriously who tries to write an opinion about a film they haven't even finished watching. "It's on channel 3 at the moment". Uh, why don't you try to actually watch the movie and maybe finish watching the movie before you make a judgement about it? I have to suspect you are one of those people who watches a movie while doing your homework or eating or playing a video game at the same time. Maybe if you learn to respect film -- basic things like paying attention to the story and allowing the film-makers to finish telling the story before you decide on what their purpose is -- then other people will actually have a reason to care about what you think about films.

Did I not love him, Cooch? MY OWN FLESH I DIDN'T LOVE BETTER!!! But he had to say 'Nooooooooo'

reply

Funkyfry, you are my hero.
Thanks for voicing what goes on in my (and, I hope, many others') mind every time I see a knee-jerk post about a movie I really enjoyed.

"basic things like paying attention to the story and allowing the film-makers to finish telling the story before you decide on what their purpose is"

Good God...it really is that simple, folks. Just because it doesn't change your life in 12 minutes doesn't mean it isn't a good movie. If you really clear your head and take the time the filmmakers intended on the piece and you STILL don't dig the movie, cool. If nothing lingers after an honest viewing, then it's clearly not your bag. Don't feel bad at all about not liking it.

But please...don't offer opinions on the Cliff's notes version.

This is such a great movie!

If you think this is the worst you have seen, then I suppose you haven't watched Dungeons & Dragons yet.

Good movie- so many funny scenes. Any movie with monkeys that talk is a winner in my book. I also love the original Babe and the most underrated character- the Cow. "The way things are.... is the way things are." Classic.

Just that fact that you (if not trollposting) completely missed the soul-moving beauty and depth of the first scene above and the amazing forgiveness/redemption of the second ("Jesus Christ", indeed) shows that you watched the film with an extremely shallow take. This is not a Rob Schneider movie.

This is easily one of the greatest films of the past 20 years. Try watching it again with an active mind and seeing the depth therein.

I do agree with you there. I felt that there something ominous about this film.
The first time I saw it, I could not sleep that night because there were some scary scenes I could not get out of my head.

reply

I didnt like this film either it did upset me and my bfs daughter when we watched it

=^.^= mow mow!

reply

I suppose everyone who liked Bambi, then, must be even more of a wierdo, because in that movie the mom actually died...unlike any of the animals in this film.

reply

yeah man
worst movie i have EVER seen

I refuse to watch Lassie movies because they make me cry, yet I didn't find this movie all that disturbing (Actually, I hate Bambi too!)

reply

I think you may have missed the point of this film.

George Miller is trying to show all of us how appallingly animals are treated by humans and how the vast majority are guilty of mass hypocrisy.

How many of those of you who thought how wonderful Babe 1 was then became vegetarians?

How many at least stopped eating dead pigs (also known as pork)?

Just the other week while walking my dog, I walked past a tidal drainage canal. Lying in it was a dead cattle dog with a rope around it's neck attached to a car wheel.

THESE are the sick *beep* who need to be locked up - not George Miller for trying to stir us into action against animal cruelty and make us actually change our ways.

reply

And if children are so shocked by some of the imagery and themes of this film, as they should be, and they become advocates for animals then more power to George Miller and the few like him who actually take risks to change the world.

He could have made a safe sequel, but instead made the film that HE wanted to - not the film that the studio would have insisted he make.

Become an Advocate! Don't eat meat!

reply

Awww, you just made me cry. That poor dog.

Oh come on... this film is incredibly depressing...

The farmer, who we all liked from the first movie, gets royally ****ed up in the first 10 minutes. Then Mrs Hogget gets violated by airport security, her bags get stolen by a monkey, Babe gets stolen by a monkey and a guy named "Fugly" (Come on, who the hell calls a character in a kid's movie "Fugly"?) who then proceeds to die after the pig sets fire to his circus act at a hospital.

Then we get into the two-legged dog, the dog who would have actually drowned if left underwater as long as he was in the film, the fish being left on the floor long enough that it shoulda died from that, the raid on the hotel with the brutal capture of the animals, the abuse of a monkey with it's babies, and every other disturbing part of the film. I was only half watching it, but I was amazed my sister lets her kids (4 and 2) watch it! And one of them likes it so much she requests it over the original.

Then again, I was equally amazed that Neverending Story was rated G with no form of warning for the scene with the horse, and the scene with all the blood from when the kid kills the beast... no way that shoulda been G-rated. But now I'm babbling...

I'm not saying it's a bad film, I'm just saying that it's pretty ****ed up for a kid's film

I completely agree about the fact that this movie is apalling. I almost started crying. I am 20 years old now and first saw it when I was 18. It was horrible. The bit with the dog is terrible and I don't know why any of you would be excited about it. Ick. I want to shower just remembering that scene.

reply

So a movie that makes you cry and feel appalled is bad?

You have a long, long way to go. People aren't *excited* about Flealick almost being run over, or the Bull Terrier drowning. They are excited by the symbolism and messages that go with it. The fact that Flealick upon regaining cosciousness doesn't give into despair like Ferdinand the duck; instead he stand true to his will and continues his mission. The fact that Babe saves the life of someone who tried to kill him, and is rewarded with gratitude for helping one in acute need.

If you can't see past the simple delivery devices employed in this move, and downtread it as a result, you are an ignoramus, pure and simple.

I think that although it isn't perfect, it's one of the better sequels to anything I've seen. The OP is perfectly entitled to his/her opinion, but my vote for the worst movie I have ever seen has to go to Home Alone 4.
