It felt to me like Derek's change of heart was too easy. I think they should have developed the prison friendship more and had the black guy die sacrificing himself to save Derek. That would have really driven it home.

Furlong was also annoying me with his narration - his acting always sounds like he is reading.

Pretty sure Furlong's character *was* reading. The narration is the essay he's written for Dr Sweeney.

WE SEE 15 MINUTES OF HIM IN PRISON...IN THE CHARACTERS REALITY,HE WAS THERE MUCH,MUCH LONGER...THE RELATIONSHIP HAD PLENTY OF JUICE WITHOUT A DEATH.
