Where were the mother and sisters on the night of the killings?

I wasn't watching closely enough maybe. Was it addressed at all?

It wasn't addressed. However, the way the film presents it they were either in the house sleeping the entire time or they were not at the house that evening. There is an argument for both scenarios:

1) That they were at the house: The curbstomp took place on the same day as the dinner. That was supposed to be Derek's last night at the house before he moved out. The very next scene after the curbstomp shows his mother and sisters at their home obviously in shock and comforting each other as a result of the incident. There is no indication whether this was that same night or the next day, but for what its worth they appeared to be in their night clothes during the scene leading me to believe it was that night.

2) That they were not at the house: Derek's car was the only car in the driveway. this leads to the conclusion that the cars were either in the garage or they were not home and spent the night elsewhere as a result of the Murray incident earlier. also, no one else heard the gang members except Danny. While Derek was otherwise occupied, either the mother or sister could have heard it but did not leading to the conclusion that they are either light sleepers or were not home. Also Danny was picked up by a police officer off the front lawn. We assume he is taken inside and the mother could have been called to come home from wherever she was to give us the next scene where they are in the baby's room comforting each other.

Thanks, I didn't realise it was supposed to be the same night as the fighty dinner.

One thing that made me think they weren't there is that While Derek may be an ass and he did get physical with his sister, he didn't seem the type to disrespect his mother and sister (and himself) by having noisy sex with that annoying girlfriend of his in the middle of the night while they were in the house.

That fact swings both ways. It could say that they weren't there because he wouldn't disrespect his mother and sister like you said, but it could also be a passive aggressive way of getting the proverbial last word in before he left the next day. If you think about it, during the dinner Derek told his mother that she was flaunting Murray in front of the family and disrespecting their late father, and this might have just been a way of giving her (and his sister by extension) a taste of their own medicine.

I hear you. It just didn't seem his style is all. But, that awful chick may have just decided to get noisy to be a biatch. Definitely her style, and he's only thinking with the little head by that stage of proceedings anyway.

They were definitely there that night. It shows then in the house the night that it happened along with the girlfriend. The mom was crying with her baby in her arms while the sister was comforting her.
