Why did Danny tear up after the father flashback

I interpreted it as Danny finally realising and perhaps accepting that his father was to (at least partly!) blame for turning Derek into the person he became.

Like the person above me said, I also interpreted it as Danny remembering the type of person his dad was. How it influenced Derek, but Derek took it to another level. He hurts his family and others. That makes Danny sad.
