Something about Norton's acting

His acting was cool in here, no doubt about it but there's something wrong about his acting in the last part... when his brother died and he cried. I could see he's struggling to get that crying acting, honestly.

reply

You think that's bad, try watching 'oscar winner' Robert De Niro try and cry in Analyse This.

reply

Are you kidding me? It's played up to be funny, you dunce.

reply

You're a shining example of the worst side of the internet. Retreat to reddit or whatever cyber dungeon you elitists are hiding these days if you want to waste more time trying to make everyone hate someone/something because you do.

Says the dunce.

I LOVED Norton in this!!! He was awesome in Primal Fear as well. But I thought he was awesome in this.

Bobby D... analyze this... hahahah brilliant!

Rainy, you are so right. Edward Norton deserved Oscars for this and Primal Fear, much more than the actual winners. He is the most under rated actor ever.

I agree. It's painful to watch, but not in the way it was intended. It's pathetic. It's a mystery to me why most people hail Norton as this incredible actor, and that scene where he's crying is the perfect example of this. Funny how almost everyone claims this film is his shining moment as an actor...

reply

Hey, guess I'm not the only one here. The crying scene was far from convincing ...

reply

I actually paused the film during the death scene at the end of the film just to come here and see if anyone else also found Norton's acting to be sub-standard and unbelievable.

Everything prior to this scene was well acted, powerful and emotional at times, but this specific scene, which should have had the most impact, only just barely holds the film together. It could and should have ended on a very powerful scene.

Joe.

reply

Yeah, pretty glaring especially since this movie was so highly rated. I started wondering if it would turn out better if they did that thing where everything slows down and goes silent.

reply

Funniest thing to me is, most of you are influenced by others' opinions than your own honest feeling of the film. I just read a 14 yr old's review about the movie on IMDB, which he wrote in 1998 and it to me was superb. Maybe some would say he was going overboard, but you could sense he was sincere in how he felt about the movie. He didn't give a damn about the fact that movie had 8,6 rating here. All that mattered to him was that the movie & Norton's acting were beautiful and that it made him feel great when he watched it in Theatre.

That's how I feel too. I do not care if some of you felt Norton didn't cry enough. The movie was so real and he was real to me. If that's how he cried, that's how he would have in reality. Period.

No hate for those who didn't like the movie. But laughs to those who think its "overrated" (no, not his acting or the movie, your judgement is)

reply

Do you read with your a$$ or something?
Seriously, which line did you read they say they didn't like the movie or find it overrated? They just said the crying was not satisfying which is pretty accurate. I also was let down by that scene considering his acting throughout the film which was terrific.
Don't say something by rote. Trust me. It makes no sense.

First there's no such notion as crying expert but expert at acting.
Second there are a lot of kids on this board which their opinions are so nonsense that they are polluting the forum -literally- like you and your retarded makes-zero-sense comments. When I say something say it through professional trained eyes unlike you which are just invaluable.
So next time you mess with someone you better mess with someone at part with your level, kiddo.

Instead of backing up yourself with reasonable arguments, saying things like dumb, loser etc. is the most pathetic attempt one can ever make and proves that you're just talking to a 10-15 years old kid.
So thanks for letting me know not to waste my time arguing with you by revealing your age and brain level.

reply

[deleted]

You're not on the bright side are you? Well, you didn't say it out loud but you actually revealed it with that posts of yours and you keep proving it as only kids' talk the way you do which is normal for their age so i don't blame you.
And even if you're older than 15 than your brain age is which is a LOT worse.

[deleted]

Finally! You're showing signs of comply. That's a good start, kiddo.

And we started the brainless insults...again.

reply

what about it did you guys not like about his acting? i thought his acting was good for that scene. His initial reaction is strong and then his reaction is him blaming himself for his death.

reply

Luckily I'm not the only one either.

Acting a cry is quite difficult. Norton's performance was ok for most of the movie. But in that final scene his crying was plain BAD, he looks like he's laughing.

reply

Really,a guy crying in a film is probably one of the hardest things for an actor to pull off convincingly. Many times they need to squirt crap in their eye or hold the scene in the rain for the visual effect.
Many of the great actors can't do it effectively (kidscan do it with much more ease, it seems

I agree it robs a scene of authenticity. But the overall impact of the film is hardly tarnished because of it. Nor do I think it takes away from his skills as an actor. It is simply one area of his talent and technique that needs improvement.

I agree, his crying is so weird, there's not even any tears. who cries without shedding tears? I mean, there's a scene earlier right after Derek is raped in prison and he breaks down in tears. His crying seems so much more genuine in that scene then when he brother dies.

reply

[deleted]

oh come on many cry without shedding a tear, you break from the inside out and sometimes just from the inside. This guy was taught to be one Evil son of a bitch, him not shedding a tear doesn't mean he was not crying. His reaction was spot on, and don't forget his brother is still in his hands people don't cry instantly when someone that close dies there is that phase, trust me I have been there, I cried my eye balls out cause he was realistic as ever can be! He was hurt, torn apart from the inside but knew this can happen just didn't know it would there and then his acting was superb in this, especialy in that scene. I love dramatic scenes, this was as realistic as they come!

reply

Watch a lot of people cry, and you'll see crying isn't just a one-way street.

He's a very good actor, and underrated. But yes, he was struggling to cry in the climax. It was evident.
