A wonderful film!

I have been a Christian Bale fan for quite some time, and although I will admit that some of his films are less-watchable than others, he rarely misses. I live in a very rural area, and access to smaller films like ATLA is limited, so I was ecstatic when it played at 1 AM on the Independent Film Channel. Perhaps because I was tired, but more likely because it was so stunning, I was in tears from beginning to end. The performances were brilliant, and I gained more respect for Bale for taking the challenge of Bobby on. This film has become one of my favorite Bale films, and I think it deserves more recognition. Kudos to the cast and crew!

I agree With u BroadwayBaby76
its a good film and Christain Bale is a Brilliant Actor

It was certainly different, but I wouldn't say wonderful by any stretch. The animals and humans contrast was dealt with in a very heavy-handed manner in my opinion - the emotionless and physically powerful human killing the defenceless animal lover (and even having the audacity to kick a toad. How dare you!) But 'The Fat' got it in the end, didn't he? The message?

And how on earth did the makers manage to plough through £3.5m to get this film made? A ridiculous budget for a film that was never likely to appeal to many. And just what did they spend it all on?

Yeah, I just saw it too and was intrigued. A very good film, I thought. It's very innocent, care-free, and sad, too. I'd never heard of it either, but recognised the actors in it.

I also saw it last night on bbc2. I want to buy it now. What a lovely little drama. Very sad but very beautiful at the same time. John Hurt and Christian Bale do wonderfully in it. :)

say goodnight to the bad guy..

I'm another person who saw this last night on bbc2, by accident actually, and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I thought the acting from Christian Bale and John Hurt was very convincing, and at times very humbling. The story was very beautiful and saddening, but kept me engrossed til the end.
It wasn't the best drama I've ever seen, but I thought it was a good movie.

i too saw this last nite, very much by accident also.I was surprised at how engrossing the drama was and was quite taken it by it.I dont think it was an excellent film by any stretch of the imagination but the acting from john hurt in particular was very convincing. Some parts of the storyline forced a stretching of the imagination i mean the lorry driver just got f**ked on and left to die!but altogther it came together quite well
i dont think it was bale's best perfomance at times it seemed forced and overplayed but eventually it was quite a good little film

I saw it last night too, but I missed the very ending. I saw the car sink underground then I fell asleep. Not a bad film. Can anyone fill me in? Did his friend die or not?

Torture you? That's a good... that's a good idea... I like that one.

reply

Yes, Mr Summers died. Bobby buried him outside the cabin. Then Bobby took as much of his friend's money as he could carry, and buried the rest of the money in the grave "the fat" had made him dig for himself. He went off into the countryside, bought a tent and ended up with a dog. I think that's what happened anyway.
Hope this helps!

I'm a fan of this movie, but I think it would be better if The Fat wasn't in it. He just spoils the tone with his over the top villiany.

I really was enjoying John Hurt and Christain Bale, in this wonderful film,"All The Little Animals", but missed the last ten minutes, I have to know how the film ended, after the step-father had Bale dig the two graves? I loved this film and have to know what happened. Mr. Summers, was in a grave way and Bale had dug the two holes,(graves) when I had to leave. Please Help! Thanks

Bobby tells the Fat about the money stashed in the floor, and while the Fat is getting it out, Bobby slashes his neck with the Swiss Army Knife Mr. Summers gave him. This doesn't mortally wound the Fat, but it makes him really mad. Bobby runs away and the Fat chases in a car. Eventually, Bobby leads him to an area and the Fat falls into this big shaft with his car and dies. Bobby runs back, but Mr. Summers has died. Bobby continues on the work.

I hope that helps!

The movie was great. I didn't really like "the fat", but who would?
I'm a little confused though. They said something about Mr. Summers drinking a lot more, or something like that. Was he a drunk?

i agree! i saw the movie early this morning on cinemax, i didn't even know what it was called until i looked it up, but i think the movie is adorable! i've seen christian bale in many other movies and i think he's a great actor, and i think that All The Little Animals is just over-all a very cute movie. although, i wouldn't really label it a thriller..

I really liked this movie too. It reminded me of a fairy tale like Snow White, so I was surprised at the 'R' rating. You had the dead mom, the evil step-parent who wants to get rid of the kid, the main character runs off to the woods and finds a kind old man to take him in, love of animals, etc. Christian Bale has great range in his acting skills.

I love this movie. My mom rented it just a week ago and I finally watched it tonight. It was excellent. Bobby seemed like a challenging character and I respect Bale for taking it on. He played him wonderfully. The ending of this movie kinda lacked relevance (well a little) & emotion... but only kinda. I love animals. Especially little bunnies. And I cried like the whole time. I didn't admire Christian Bale at first for Batman Begins. It was filmed nicley but horriblly confusing. I just realized this... Christian Bale is HOTT, man! I saw him in the very beginning and I jumped up and screamed, "That's Christian Bale!"

I wish this was more about animose =[ But it's based off a book... which I'm gonna go buy tomorrow. =]

=] I LOVE THIS MOVIE. Absolute favorite of mine, now!

"I love animals." (I love the way he says it 'animose')
