An interesting note about the song "Don't Leave Me This Way": the singer is Thelma Houston (Whitney's aunt). She appears in the film (20 years after her disco hit) singing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas".

Except for a couple (very) brief snippets, every song in the film is available on the two soundtrack CDs ("54" Volume 1 & Volume 2). Available new on any website that sells music. Used on E-Bay, they come pretty cheap.

The 2 soundtrack CDs are just a tiny sample, highlighting only the mainstream hits of the time (i.e. also heard on radio). The DJs at these mega-clubs of the late 70s/early 80s had vast libraries of re-mixes including many studio artists that were ONLY heard in the clubs.

Unfortunately, much of this material is lost, as it was never released to the public commercially. There were also many extended remix 12" vinyl LP dance singles that never made it to CD during transition.

Occasionally, a disco aficionado or DJ will sell CDs on E-Bay that were transferred from the original tapes. I bought one last summer, and was astounded at the sheer number of songs from the clubs that I had completely forgotten until I heard them again.
