episode 1968

was very uneven

the first half was just a display of stock footage and the liftoff editing was just terrible
but when they got to the Moon, it got much, much better

anyone have any idea what they were trying to achieve with that totally out of place editing during liftoff?

reply

no. I am editor and thought the editing was great in the liftoff sequence. it served the narrative very well illustrating the chaotic nature of the year 1968 which apollo 8 leaves behind during liftoff. also the way it was done was very very professional and hard to achieve. and the stock footage in this episode was maybe 5% not some 50% like you said.

1968 was the greatest episode, 100% neatly done.

Yes, I agree with what you said, "1968" was one of my favourite episodes. The title of the episode says it all really, and the programme gives a fantastic insight into what it was like to live through that year. When my 8 year old son was doing the 1960's as a school project, we watched this as a snapshot of that decade. He went into school full of information and even amazed his teacher!

"Good evening Dave. Everything's running smoothly, and you?"
