US DVD vs. CAN DVD - THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!

I live in the U.S. and I bought the American DVD for this movie shortly after it came out. Then I read a review on amazon.com that said that there was a commentary track on the DVD. The reviewer was Candaian and I'm almost certain that there isn't any commentary on the DVD I have, so I assumed that it must only be on the Candaian DVD. This would make sense since the U.S. and Canadian DVDs have different covers*.

Now a friend of mine is thinking about purchasing this movie, but he doesn't know if he should spend $11.99 for the U.S. DVD w/o commentary or shell out $20+ for the Canadian DVD. So can anyone help us out by telling us who is on the commentary and is it entertaining/informing? Thank you kindly!

*The difference in the covers really says a lot about censorship in our countries. The Candaian DVD shows Dave Foley in a lineup with a bunch of thugs and covered in blood. The U.S. DVD shows Dave Foley standing with a little bit of mud smeared on his clothes. WHAT A COUNTRY!

reply

Well, I think I'll get the Canadian version. The bloood tells all for me.

Weeeelll,

If it's $12 U.S. for the U.S. version and $20 Canadian (about $15 U.S.) for the Canadian version, isn't it worth the extra $3?

If it's $20 U.S, well.........never mind! :)

I have never held either DVD in my hands, but from the pictures on the internet, it looks like both dvds use the exact same picture of Dave Foley. The only difference is the US version lacks the thugs, so it's more focused on Dave.

I got the Canadian version for $6.88 at Wal-Mart ... not to brag or anything.

I put together my own copy of the DVD from dirt and twigs and things I found on the ground.

Not to brag or anything.

I picked up the Canadian DVD and the commentary's pretty decent.

HOWEVER - be forwarned - it's in Full Frame while the US release is in widescreen.

So - you may just need both. LOL.

reply

I have both. The US version is fake widescreen though, as the picture isn't actually wider. All they did was place black bars over the top and bottom of the picture.

Oh how times have changed. It's 10 years later (from the start of this thread) and people now wish it was so easily available for $20. I felt very lucky to have found a brand new copy for $22 in the year 2014.
