Who saw this in theatres originally?

Does anyone remember when this came out to theatres? I remember I was 9 at the time and it had just come out but hadn't received any publicity in our area but the poster looked cool at the theatre so naturally I persuaded my mom to take my brother and I to see it. I don't remember too much about that experience but I do remember watching the hell out of it on DVD (when DVDs were still a new technology and cost about 30-40 bucks a disc at the time) because it was one of the only DVDs I had at the time. The other two were Halloween and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I can't understand why anyone would see this at the movies. I saw it on cable many years later. I've only seen the first 2 films.

If I had seen this at the movies at the age of 9 I'd still be in therapy. maybe even at 19! (lol) The killings were pretty gruesome and that party scene pretty unique even with all the horror films that came before.

I remember it was kind of banking on the success of "Scream" to be a hit. In fact, I think the trailers would mention "Scream" all the time and certainly putting "Wes Craven Presents" was taking advantage of that. Well, my friend and I saw it and thought it stunk. I was pretty bored. Been thinking of revisiting it as I don't even remember a whole lot about it.

I saw it the day after it opened in theaters. packed house shockingly. I was writing movie reviews at the time. Big fan of all the Horror people involved in front of and behind the camera on it but thought the movie sucked. Have watched it a few times and it gets better each time. Haven't seen any of the sequels yet.

I saw it when I was 14. I was a huge fan back then as well, so I enjoyed seeing this in the theater. The place I went to was not packed.

I saw it opening weekend. The showing, believe it or not, was sold out! Guess someone wished for it?

I saw the movie a couple of times in The theaters.

I saw it when i was 19. It was a packed house. The internet doesn't know everything about the past. Everybody back then I knew loved this movie. People were more appreciative then and not movie-spoiled, super a-hole douches like today.

I first saw it on VHS (they had a trailer on the Scream 2 VHS in Australia, it was distributed here by the same company who were definitely making sure Scream/Wes Craven fans knew about it) and I found it enjoyable, nothing more than a cheesy movie.

It's interesting reading others say it's more enjoyable now, because I agree, lol. I love cheesy B-grade movies way more now than when I was a teenager, haha. It would have been fun in a theater hearing reactions lol. Crazy movie with a good horror story premise. The DTV sequel had some good ideas, so it's a shame they couldn't have been executed better, a bit TOO trashy that one lol.

Yep. Saw it in theaters when I was 12 or 13.

My best friend (who got me hooked on horror movies) was always able to persuade her mom to dump us off at the movies and we were pretty much free to see whatever the hell we wanted because the ushers at our local theater couldn't be buggered to check for age. I had never heard a thing about it as far as advertising and I had no idea what we were getting into. We were the only two people in the theater and we had an absolute blast watching it!

Still one of my favorite goofy horror flicks to this day...massive flaws and all.
