then you are missing out 'big time'!! the film 'wilde' is an excellent bio on oscar wilde.

you have oscar wilde who is incredibly talented and extremely 'clever', he's married with children and is seduced by a young man the family has taken under their wing. this unleashes his hidden homosexuality, and he then begins to have affairs with young men. he then meets 'lord alfred douglas' aka bosey, played by jude law. bosey is rich, spoiled, selfish and downright fascinating to watch!! he plays on oscar's feelings, taken total advantage of the situation. of course bosey's father, the marquess of queensbury, comes from high places, is mean as hell, and hates oscar and his son i believe. he forbids bosey to ever see oscar again, and when bosey refuses, his father begins stalking oscar, eventually leaving one of his cards for him with a message on it calling him a pervert. bosey sees this as his way to get back at his father, thinking of no one but himself. he talks oscar into suing the marquess of queensbury for slander. oscar's true friends try to explain to him that this can only end drastically, that taking the marquess to court will only cause his secret life to become public, no matter how hard he tries to deny it...which also means by denying it he'd have to lie and perjure himself. oscar's only concern is for bosey and he goes to court. needless to say, the tables become turned, oscar is charged with and is found guilty for sodomy. he's sentenced to two years hard labor. this isn't like prison's today, hard labor back then meant just that...hard labor. off to prison he goes....

the rest will be told when you see it. i highly recommend it!

well i don't think bosie was shown as a cold-hearted boy who just played on oscar's feeling and thinks of no-one but himself.
maybe he was so in real life, i don't know, but it could easily be - but i think in the film he was shown nicer as he seemed (if you only know him from letters and what friends said).
he tells his mother he wants to love oscar just as deep and selfless as oscar loves him, but he isn't that good. i've never seen a bosie like that before.

oh yes, and i also highly recommend the film!! it's a beautiful made picture and the most honest film ever made about oscar.

reply

I've seen the film, i suppose it is quite good...but i turned it off after Orli's debut because the rest of it was grossing me out!
But see it just coz Orli's in it, that way you are a true fan like me.

I was at the Rotk WORLD Premier!!

I agree..if you haven't seen this movie you got to...it was an excellent movie even with the male love scenes. I thought it was well done and the actors who portrayed everyone were great. To me it seemed to be a very classic love story with the tragedy. At least thats how I viewed it.

P.S. Orlando did look beautiful in it. hehe

I'm the baby. What I want I get.

reply

I'm depressed by this thread. Hasn't anyone watched it for the sheer gorgeousness of Stephen's performance? It's a masterpiece.

reply

"I've seen the film, i suppose it is quite good...but i turned it off after Orli's debut because the rest of it was grossing me out!"

How would you have reacted if the movie had girls kissing other girls instead and having girl on girl sex?

reply

You. YOU gross me out. wow.

reply

I thought the movie was alright, I felt there was a little to much attention on his sex life and not enough on his career life

reply

"he's sentenced to two years hard labor. this isn't like prison's today, hard labor back then meant just that...hard labor."

I thought it very significant that it wasn't even productive labor. It's sole purpose was to fatigue the prisoner to the limits of endurance, or beyond. I suppose the idea was that kind of pain would extinguish his homosexual behavior, which psychiatrists now say cannot be done.

reply

It wasn't unproductive - prisoners sentenced to hard labor did things like sew sacks and make rope. The mills that Wilde and the others are shown walking on were actually used to make flour and things like that.

~ I wonder if there's beer on the sun? ~

reply

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad my impression was incorrect and the labor at least produced something.

reply

While prisoners did productive labour punishments that were dished out were pointless and unproductive. You see an example of one on Violent Nation where a prisoner has to wind a handle a thousand times in one day or they will not heat. It gets harder and harder to wind the handle and prison warders can make adjustments to make the handle harder to turn and if a pirsoner does not complete 100 turns in a day they won't be given food and have to start all over again the next day. :(

reply

Wow. I have never seen such lack of coherence and intelligence in a thread about a wonderful, intellectual romance. You are just simpering over the fact that Orlando Bloom appears for about a minute and plays a rentboy. Can we get more fangirlistic here? If you really wish to see Orlando's "acting prowess," go rent Pirates of the Caribbean. I doubt any of you would understand or enjoy this movie past the part when Orlando says "Looking for someone?" Why don't you watch it, and THEN post about how wonderful the six seconds were?

reply

Yea I couldn't agree more with the last two posts, 'acting prowess' (haha). I didn't see this movie for any reason at all it was on late one night and I watched and had this like new found love for Oscar Wilde, and to tell you the truth I didn't even notice Bloom was in it until the third time I watched it. And some of you say that the male love scenes are 'gross'; grow the hell up and learn to appreciate a damn movie... UGH I hate fangirls

...lookin' on she sings her songs the words she knows the tune she hums...

reply

Can I just ask the average age of people on this thread? I know the later posters are a little more mature (so they could actually appreciate the film), but what's with the 'the movie grossed me out'! Like, oh my God! Two guys had sex! And Orli was only in it for ten seconds! And he was a rentboy! Like, oh my double God! What is this movie?? I don't like it! Why couldn't it have been a sappy rom-com!?!?!

"You DO wear it on your head. I just LOVE finding new places to wear diamonds!"

reply

Exactly, Orlando has one line that we don't even hear. He is little more than an extra and I'm sick of people going on about it like his three whole words were amazing. Get over it, people. Orlando isn't even that good-looking and this film deserves more respect than it "grossed me out"

Right, thats my rant over.

reply

I'm feeling the dismay of the later posters at the philistines who posted earlier. Yes OB is in the movie but as a struggling 20 year old actor who wouldn't work for another 4 years after this blink and you miss it role, so please get over it and quickly because no wants her you tweenage lot hum on about it. I thought Orlando Bloom hated fans anyway? Can't blame the poor bugger with this lot of retards.

By the by, I love this film it is truely exquisite, oh but of course apart from Jude Law going out with a man! I mean like total gross out? Isn't he with Sienna Miller? Ah, what's the point, I don't think they even get the humour...i've lost the ability to scorn.

reply

What do you mean he didn't work for another four years?? After he did this part (which, yes, he should hardly be credited for it, it was so small) he worked on LOTR.

What do you mean you thought he hated his fans? Where the he11 did you hear that!? I suggest you get your information from somewhere other than a tabloid, which is where you must've gotten it, because he is grateful to all his fans.

//Interviewer: 'Why are you wearing bright yellow socks today?'
Orlando Bloom: 'I just like yellow socks.'//

reply

Ok, u are one sad person. His one line was are you looking for somebody? That was it. Ok I like Orlando Bloom 2 but u r seriously obsessed. And how dare you call gay ppl icky? They arent icky at all!!! Oscar Wilde was one of the greatest Irish writers of all time, Will and Jack in Will and Grace are hysterical, Matt Lucas - writer, actor and creator of Little Britain is so funny and he seems really nice.
My rants over now.

reply

If u wer jokin im sorry for being such a b****.

reply

I was joking. Oh *beep* yes I was joking.

I don't even Orlando Bloom. He is just "another one" to me.

I love gay people. They deserve more. Go to my site: www.gay-rights.tk

That is all I have to say.

Sorry - I just recognised your name now and I know full well you're not an Orlando Bloom fanatic. Can you send me info on your website or am I free to go to it?

reply

Ye gods, this is hideous thread.

To the poser of the question some way above; at 15, I can probably say that I am older than most of the earlier posters, yet seem to have developed much more appreciated for what this movie is actually about, and I also seem to be able to use my keyboard a little more effectively.

Hmm. Food for thought.

Notice the trend of emoticon-use as you skim down this thread.

Here here, I couldn't agree with you anymore. I bet most of these girls and guys(if there are any on this thread) would think it's okay if it were girls screwing girls but not okay if guys are screwing guys.

reply

People can be so hypocritical like that. Like guys getting horny over girls making out, fighting, snogging and what have you but think two guys in love is sick. I'll never understand the attitude of the homophobic. This thread is so depressing. So many Orlando fangirls with immature attitudes to different lifestyles. If you're not interested in the film or don't understand it and not even going to try to understand it then don't watch it.
