Rentboy???

Okay, I'm American and we don't have "rentboys"...or at least we don't call any person/profession "rent-whatever". I've looked the word up in all the dictionaries I have but none of them have the word and anything like it. So...what is a rentboy? Is it some kind of English male prostitue? (That's my guess.) Please, someone just tell me - I'd really love totell my Orli-obsessed friends that his first role was as a prostitute.

maybe "rent-boy" is an english word then? it certainly is a male prostitute... a boy you can rent, you can have sex with and you can pay for afterwards ^_^

i think this word is somewhat old-fashioned... don't know if it exists / is used nowadays as well...

yep, we still use it today. Not that rentboys feature hugely in me day-to-day frame of reference hemhem.
Also in those days (1890s) "rent" meant blackmail. Renters would pick blokes up, have a bit, then threaten to report them to the police unless they paid up
and kept paying up.

If my memory is correct I think that one of the characters in the movie "Trainspotting" is nicknamed rentboy.

A rentboy is a man who is sent money by his family to stay away and never darken their door again.
