Biographies of Wilde.

Does anyone know which biography about Oscar Wilde is the definitive one? As much as I would like to read all of them, I'm afraid I don't have the time.

What's truth got to do with anything?

richard ellman's oscar wilde is probably still the definitive though there's one i haven't read called the secret life of oscar wilde by neil mckenna which focuses more on oscar's sex life than the former. hope that helps!

I only have read two biographies of Wilde, so I can't talk about the others:

a) Oscar Wilde by Luis Antonio de Villena

b) Oscar Wilde, His Life and Confessions by Frank Harris

The book from Harris is truly remarkable bc it shows you the human side of Wilde, pointing out several conversations that he had with Frank, who was one of his closer friends before being in the jail. I recommend it with the eyes closed, it's a masterpiece.

I even bought the biography that Harris wrote about Shakespeare and his own autobiography, although I haven't read them yet.
