Duh it was a bear trying to get back at his pesky sons. Those bears are elaborate. Don't mess with one if you cant handle it.

Even though the thread is a few years old, I just wanted to bring it up. I was watching a behind the scenes interview about the movie a while ago & basically the woman who grabs him before the crash was supposed to be an affair the father was having. Afterwards though, they felt that him cheating didn't fit with the storyline & that it added too much "drama" that would go nowhere- so they ended up deleted the scenes regarding it. It's a major blooper that she wasn't fully removed, the conversation that took place in the hospital regarding her was also cut out to focus more on the brothers.
shareI've watching this movie for years and I could never figure out what that was. As a kid I remember asking my mom and she thought it was the reflection of a deer running across the road. Later I believe we decided it was someone who had broken into his truck and stabbed him in the shoulder when he least expected it and that was why he wrecked. It was very hard to tell though. I'm glad they didn't go anywhere with the cheating story but reading that now it makes much more sense as to why it never explained what really caused the wreck.
