The Name Joshua

Anyone else notice that Joshua was starting to act almost as Christ would? I'm not trying to be a stupid religious cliche... but his name is Joshua (which is the same as Jesus)... interesting

I actually just stumbled across this post and have no clue about the movie or character or anything. But I do know that Joshua, under any cirmstanmces, is NOT "the same as Jesus." Joshua is his own book, in the OLD Testament. While they are both religious figures in Judeo-Christian culture, they are not interchangeable.

Joshua isn't Jesus' "real" name, it's the English translation of the Hebrew Yeshua, while Jesus is the Greek equivalent.

I agree with you. And I'm in love with you for knowing that. Jk. But seriously. I learned that in one of my ancient history classes. Joshua ben Joseph=Jesus.

"Why are you wearing that stupid bunny suit?"

"Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?"

Yeshua ben Joseph. Not Joshua. Yeshua. Different names.

There are actually references as well to JOSHUA ben Joseph. Technically both are "not incorrect".

Jesus is the Greek equivalent.

Roman, not greek.

Marcus
Augustus
gaius

all Roman.

Jesus, and Joshua are the same name, but not the same biblical characters as an earlier poster sugested

lovemuffin, congratulations. You've actually managed to interpret this movie correctly. Most people that watch the movie don't catch what it's saying, but what you posted is in fact the entire point. He goes on a search for God, and ends up finding God... within himself. The more that he searched the more like God (and thus Jesus) that he himself became. He was asleep before and was "wide awake" by the end of the film.

and I never thought about the name "Joshua" but that's a great point also.

And the kid who plays Joshua is named Joseph Cross...Joseph was the earthly father of Jesus, and Jesus died on the cross...coincidence or just another piece of the puzzle in M Knight's giant, real-life conspiracy theory???

Food for thought, people, food for thought...

: )

I disagree the kid was emulating jesus by the end of the film, he was more aware of otehr people and was able to take a more mature look at the world, but that is not the same as emualting jesus. I felt he found god working through him and others in the world. Not inspiring others. Just my take of course, I suppose everyone has thier own idea on what jesus was all about, and of course what they get from the movie.
