The Ending

The ending of this movie was horrible. It made the movie pointless.
I wish they never told us what happened afterwards, or at least lied and said that she got to finish college and be the successful person she wanted to be all through the movie. that really sucked. It ruined the movie

reply

I don't think it necessarily ruined the movie, but I agree, it sort of undid all the happy feelings we got from the scene before. I don't know why they felt they had to add that last bit. It was unnecessary to tell us what happened to them. It kind of bummed me out after enjoying the whole movie. Was it based on a true story? Maybe they wanted to be accurate, but eeriously, I don't need to know that Scott got partial custody and she had to drop out of college. Pointless.

Tomorrow's just your future yesterday!

reply

Yes this was a true story. I'm searching now to see if I can find anything else but if I remember correctly this happened in Michigan.

reply

You're right. I was still curious so I did some searching of my own and found this article: http://www.gale.com/free_resources/whm/trials/ireland.htm It did take place in Michigan and the movie actually stayed very close to the actual events.

Tomorrow's just your future yesterday!

wow thanks for that, that was a good read. I still can't believe she had to give up her schooling, and move back. I wonder what ever happened with her, whether she ended up getting to go back to university once Maranda went to to school, things like that.

reply

LOL I don't even know when anyone's going to read this, since the last post was over a year ago. But I liked the ending. It was realistic. How many girls do you know who got knocked up their junior year of high school and ended up going to college and law school and becoming a successful lawyer? I thought it was a huge stretch for her to even have gotten into Cornell in the first place. Maybe a community college or public college somewhere, but not Cornell--they only take the cream of the crop, not idiots who get knocked up as teenagers.

It was very realistic--she thought she and Scott were in love, he knocked her up and kept on walking, then when he wanted a relationship with his kid he ended up trying to take the kid away. Then, she had to withdraw from college. Sounds about right to me. If you're going to be a dumbass, be prepared to face the consequences.

reply

You know, you really show your intelligence with that post. I hope you're proud of that. By the way, plenty of teen mom's go to school and finish college... I did.

reply

Good for you rdstravinskas! I really admire people who can finish not only high school, but college while balancing a child. I don't think I could do that. I agree with the OP. The ending really ruined the movie for me. I had such a good feeling from the second to last scene, and then the little tid-bit at the end ruined it. Overall, the movie was pretty good. I thought the trial scenes were unrealistic, however.

How long till this goes away?

"I really admire people who can finish not only high school, but college while balancing a child."

Well, I really admire people who can keep their legs closed throughout high school, or at the very least learn how to use birth control. So now slutty teens having kids and inevitably ruining the lives of these innocent children because they couldn't keep their pants on is an ADMIRABLE thing??? LMAO!

"I don't think I could do that."

Me neither. I was never enough of a retard to get pregnant out of wedlock.

reply

some people choose to have sex
some people choose to get knocked up
but when ur all grown up ull realise, very few people CHOOSE to get knocked up and left ALONE!!

academic scholarship? not getting pregnant is usually not a requirement for most colleges to be admitted.

reply

I did watch the movie, but totally off topic, "Tomorrow's just your future yesterday." Yay! Craig Ferguson!

Hey FYI, you're a piece of SH*T! Take your views and shove them up your A$$! You have no reason to be such a b*tch. People make mistakes. Life comes at you fast. No reason for you to pass judgement on anyone.

Just so you know, I am not someone who has been involved in any situation that some of the previous people have posted about. I just wandered on here and saw that you were being a *beep* So do me a favor, don't even bother posting your cheap shots against me or anyone else on this forum for that matter.

reply

Glad I'm not the only one pissed off by booklady. That was one of the most ignorant, close-minded posts I've read on one of these boards. I don't get why some of you feel the need to attack other posters because of their personal views or life that you know nothing about. By the way, there's plenty of "wed mature parents" that cause unstable or bad environments for their kids to grow up in, so quit acting like a condescending b*tch.

rdstravinskas - kudos to you for being able to go to school and raise a child.

reply

Hmmmm...so no one replies to what I said for MONTHS, and then now TWO people post to me within hours of one another. LMAO! It's so pathetic when one person pretends to be two different people (and it's so obvious that's what you're doing) to make their point seem stronger. LOSER!

Oh yeah, and you declaring that you haven't been involved in those situations--why would you have to emphasize that unless you HAD BEEN??? LOL! You know what they say about those who protest too much...rdstravinskas, is that you? LMAO! Or maybe it's some other retarded skank who got knocked up in high school and destroyed their child's life!

reply

*sniff sniff* Smells like troll. :)

reply

No, I don't think that having an OPINION, even if it differs a lot from others', makes me a troll. UGH.

reply

No, but screaming at people and calling them names just to get attention does.

Wow. Seriously, are you that insecure about how good of a person you are that you need to pass judgement on people you don't know? Everyone makes mistakes in high school, and it's admirable for someone to work past them and make the most of it.

And this is coming from a 26 year old virgin waiting for marriage.

the whole point was she wanted to further her education and the idea of her child being in day care wasnt a bad thing, but positive in the long run...

Hiii!!!
I see this movie,and i like that!
For the ending, I see this website : http://wheninnocenceislost.blogspot.com/ .
The ending is:
Here is a picture of Jennifer Ireland Oprinski today.Got a chance to speak briefly with Jennifer Oprinski today. After attending college at the University of Michigan she began working in financial services. She now serves as Vice President and Senior Financial Advisor at her firm. She has been married for 12 1/2 years and has a 9 year old son. She stated that Maranda is 19 almost 20, and that she is a sophomore at Wayne State University studying physical therapy. Jennifer and Maranda's father do not keep in touch. Jennifer goes by her married name of Oprinski now, and she says most people don't recognize them, but every now and then "someone will put it together."

Thanks for reed my post!!

Thank you so much for posting this, rafaella! After watching the movie last night I was disturbed that Scott basically bullied Erica out of college and the life she wanted. I'm thrilled she went back to school and has the life she deserves. When did she go back to school? Is her current husband "Paul" in the movie? How is "Scott's" relationship with their child? What is he up to these days?

Reid and Goren fic in one spot! Enjoy!
