You're a little confused here - most of the events dramatized in Welcome To Sarajevo (the descent into war, the breadline massacre, the discovery of Serb-run concentration camps in Omarska and Trnopolje, the Chetnik attacks on buses filled with children) took place in the spring and summer of 1992, when George H.W. Bush was the American president.

As far as "white orphans" are concerned, the only character in Welcome To Sarajevo who's adopted - Emira - isn't an orphan. The last quarter of the film is about Henderson's search for Emira's mother. Don't you remember? He needed her consent for the adoption to proceed.

Otherwise, the movie is about removing orphans from a war zone - not putting them up for mass adoption.

And I'm curious - what does "dis-brainwash" mean?

I am not sure you watched this movie at all if this is what you think.
I will admit is very uncomfortable to watch if you are Serb as I am, but there is no evidence to say Bill Clinton wanted to destroy Europeans, and white orphans are adopted from est europe all the time, but mostly from countries where care of disabled and orphan children is very bad.

Now I am a conservative Republican and do not like Bill Clinton but how did he plan to destroy Europeans?? The US was not responsible for starting the Bosnian war, it was domestic issues in the Balkans. Also I don't think its our job to intervene in every conflict and put our own soldiers in harms way when we don't really have interests at stake. The NATO states did have interests though since if the war continued there would be a mass refugee crisis into Western Europe so they pushed the UN to keep the peace. I think the Bosnian Serb forces attacked the UN peacekeepers which was why the US and UK had to retaliate against them. In terms of Western responsibility I've read that the borders of the Balkan countries were drawn by the West, just like in other war zones like Israel/Palestine, Kurdistan, Iraq, and many places in Africa like Rwanda and Sudan which all saw wars. (I think the 13 worse places are probably Iraq, Lebanon, Haiti, Somalia, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone, Sudan, etc.

The UN was certainly busy in the early 1990s, they also had to enforce the no-fly zone in Iraq where Saddam was massacring tens of thousands of Kurds and *beep* after the Gulf War, and were involved in Haiti and Somalia (Black Hawk Down was set in 1992 or 1993) and the Gulf War had just ended, not to mention Lebanon and Israel. As bad as Sarajevo had it, Kabul, Beirut, Mogadishu probably were worse.

What do you mean by de-brainwash??? I really don't get it. Orphans are orphans regardless of race are we really talking about this in 2011? White orphans are adopted all the time domestically like when the parents are killed in an accident or something, or are abandoned and given away for adoption by single moms who got pregant but didn't want an abortion. There are plenty of white orphans from Hurricane Katrina, 9-11 and the Oklahoma City bombing. If anything the media showed a disproportionate amount of black coverage after that tragedy, and a disproportioante coverage of inner city New Orleans vs the rest of the Gulf coast. Most foreign adopted kids I've seen are Korean or Vietnamese. I think the US allowed a lot to come out of guilt for our failure in the Vietnam War.

The only sin regarding that war was that Europe waited so long to do something about it.
