I enjoyed this movie... don't get me wrong, but I often wondered what made Kathy Bates want to do this movie. It just seems like an odd choice for an oscar winning actress like herself to act in.

She plays all kinds of roles, remember her as 'The Squirrel Lady' in "Rat Race".

All I've gotta say is that it was definitely one of the roles where she's actually attractive.

Kathy Bates can be amazingly funny. The Squirrel Lady was one of the best characters in Rat Race, and it was only a very small role.
As Mama, she had m in stitches! "Did they ever catch that gorilla that busted outta the zoo and punched you in the eye?" Hahahaha, *beep* classic!
I agree, as such a well renowned actress, these rather small-scale comedy roles are a change, but she does them so well!

Oh yeah, Kathy Bates is hilarious in this! She was hands down the funniest part of this movie.

Kathy Bates is great at playing psychos. Maybe she wanted to branch out into comedy. I am sure the paycheck wasn't shabby.

In the end where Bobby and Vicki get married, Mama (Kathy Bates) tackled her ex-husband.

The movie wouldn't be as funny without Kathy Bates. She's easily the best and funniest character in the movie
