JJL

I have always liked JJL because she is very selective with her roles. I think this was one of her best. However, I'm not sure the quirkiness of her character was due to her interpretation or if it followed the book. If she was supposed to be "plain" and "dull" as her father described her, her quirkiness didn't help. But it was good to see her overcome her father's perception of his daughter. I didn't think she was dull at all. She was extremely sensitive, perceptive, and completely honest with her feelings, unlike most of the other characters in the film.

I read somewhere that JJL used her unresolved feelings toward her late father Vic Morrow in this role to some degree. It's sad that they never got to reconcile before he died.

Wow, haven't seen the movie yet, but I'll watch for that when I do.

I can definitely see those emotions come through on screen. Interesting that her situation in the movie was similar to her real struggles.
