I was impressed with this movie. One of the best I have seen. I felt I really got to know the main characters. The simplicity and complexity of their lives (and how realistically they were portraid). While some folks mentioned the movie was sad, at the end I was uplifted by the compassion Isa has demonstrated.

Does anybody recommend other movies along these lines?

Thanks a lot!

I enjoyed "Ruby in Paradise" and "Ulee's Gold," both directed by Victor Nunez, both character driven, like "Dreamlife"

Also, the German film, "Mostly Martha," about a female chef forced to care for her dead sister's young daughter, "The Miracle" by Neil Jordan (difficult to find), and the American indie feature "The Opposite of Sex," a bawdy comedy, that still manages to have a heart, even as it savagely pokes fun at virtually all it's characters.

Be curious to see what others recommend.

Perhaps "Me Without You"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0263725/

It's about two friends growing up together, so it's not exactly the same.

Hey, someone at that forum is asking for similar movies, also, so I guess I'll plug this movie over there :-).

Louise (Take 2) also with Élodie Bouchez is a fine film.

I'd recommend "Wendy and Lucy" and the German-language film "Gisela".

Try Au Revoir Les Enfants (1987).
